There’s been a significant update in the ongoing search for the missing OceanGate submarine.
On Sunday (June 18), a submarine carrying five people – British billionaire Hamish Harding, British businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman, former French Navy diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet, and chief executive of OceanGate Stockton Rush – vanished off the coast of Canada.
The passengers had each paid $250,000 each to visit the Titanic ruins. Communications were lost about an hour and 45 minutes into the journey towards the wreckage site and it has reported that the vessel likely only has 30 more hours of oxygen on board.
On Tuesday, an internal US government memo offered an update about how the search and rescue mission was going.

CNN reports that a sonar picked up banging sounds, which suggests “continued hope of survivors.”
The memo adds that the underwater noises were detected by a Canadian P-3 aircraft, which led the rescue team to relocate resources in order to explore their origin. Unfortunately, the “searches have yielded negative results.”
