‘Scream 7’: Courteney Cox Is In Talks To Return As Gale Weathers For Kevin Williamson’s Upcoming Sequel

Major controversy hit the “Scream” franchise last year when lead actress Melissa Barrera was fired from the franchise following Pro-Palestinian/anti-genocide remarks that the actress made on social media, comments that Spyglass Entertainment viewed as antisemitic. Fans were confused, upset, and backlashed against the move, many angered by the way the series dumped her and then went back to re-casting original franchise stars Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox instead.

Olivia Williams recently recalled a “harrowing” and “alarming” experience she allegedly had while appearing on the iconic TV show “Friends.” “Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman,’ ” Williams, 55, told the Independent. According to “The Crown” alum, the actress — whose name Williams cannot remember — quickly found herself in hot water with one of the show’s producers.

Marc Malkin Senior Editor, Culture and Events Courteney Cox may be heading back to the “Scream” franchise, as sources tell Variety she is in talks to reprise the role of Gale Weathers in the seventh movie of the slasher series, to be directed by “Scream” creator and writer Kevin Williamson. The news comes about two weeks after Neve Campbell announced she was coming back as Sidney Prescott after the actor sat out of “Scream 6” due to a salary dispute. “Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!” Campbell posted on Instagram March 12.

Activity is heating up on the Scream front, as Courteney Cox is now in talks to return as reporter Gale Weathers, reprising the role she’s held since the first installment, sources confirmed to Deadline.
