As a result, some of the Bard’s classics, like Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and Hamlet, now have been barred from the classroom, with students only reading excerpts of the plays in order to meet basic curriculum standards.The district said that teachers who violate the content restrictions for English classes could be subject to disciplinary action or have a complaint filed against them by a parent who believes the books or plays are “inappropriate” for minors to read.If a student wishes to read the censored plays in their entirety, they’ll have to pursue other ways of obtaining the texts on their own time, such as by seeking them out at a public library or privately-owned bookstore not subject to state regulation.Previously, English classes in the district required students to read at least two novels or plays during the school year.

A man from Wigan has been found guilty of sexually abusing kids at a school in Worcestershire in the 1960s and 70s.
Maurice Lambell, 68, of Leigh, has been convicted of 30 sexual offences including indecent assault and buggery.
His co-accused Keith Figes, 73, of Bourton, Dorset, previously pleaded guilty to 11 counts of specimen offences. He had been charged with 51 counts of sexual offences, including indecent assault and buggery.

The abuse happened between 1966 and 1974 whilst both men were working at Berrow Wood School in Pendock, on the Worcestershire/Gloucestershire border.
It catered for boys who were considered to have behavioural or learning difficulties or had been excluded from mainstream education owing to disruptive behaviour.
A jury returned their verdicts in the case of Lambell, of Platt Fold Street, at Worcester Crown Court earlier today (Monday, July 24).
Both he and Figes, of Breach Close, have been placed on the Sex Offenders register and will be sentenced at a later date.
Speaking after the hearing, Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Mark Walters, from West Mercia Police said: “I would like to thank the victims in this case for coming forward and reporting the horrific abuse they suffered.
“Investigations of this nature are complex however I hope today’s verdict highlights the extent we will go to and ensure justice is done, no matter how long the passage of time since the offences took place.
“It is clear that both men who have been convicted deliberately sought out young and vulnerable children who were living away from their families and abused them, when in fact they should have been protecting them.
