And Just Like That… season one of the Sex & the City spinoff series has come to an end.
After the season one finale of the show premiered on HBO Max on Thursday (February 3), Sarah Jessica Parker opened up about the presence of Samantha Jones on the spinoff series and explained why she doesn’t want to Kim Cattrall to reprise the role on the show.

“I don’t think I would, because I think there’s just too much public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared,” SJP, 56, shared with Variety. “I haven’t participated in or read articles, although people are inclined to let me know.”
Over the years, Kim, 65, has said that she would never return as Samantha to the SATC franchise, citing tons of tension off-screen with her co-stars, especially SJP, who has shot down any suggestion of a feud with her former co-star.
In the premiere episode of And Just Like That…, it was explained that Samantha had moved to London after a falling out with Carrie (SJP).
Throughout the season, Samantha was still present, as she and Carrie communicated often through texts after the shocking death of Mr. Big (Chris Noth).
In the finale, Carrie returns to Paris to spread Big’s ashes into the Seine River. Afterwards, she and Samantha plan to meet the following day for cocktails.
“We didn’t go to Kim for this, you know,” SJP added of Kim‘s absence from the new show. “After we didn’t do the movie and the studio couldn’t meet what she wanted to do, we have to hear her and listen to her and what was important to her. It didn’t fit into what was important or needed for us.”
SJP then went on to explain that there is a “very distinct line” between Kim and Samantha.
