Ryan Reynolds underwent a colonoscopy and let a camera crew inside the medical recovery room to hear first-hand what happened while he underwent the important preventative procedure.
In a YouTube video, the 45-year-old actor explained he lost a bet to Rob McElhenney, his soccer-club owner, and as a result, had to get the procedure done with cameras involved.
About getting the procedure done, Ryan said, “It’s a simple step that could literally, and I mean literally, save your life.”
According to the video, colon cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in America. 1 in 24 Americans gets colon cancer. Colon cancer can be preventable with colonoscopies, and the recommended age is 45 years old.

In the recovery room, the doctor explained he found an “extremely subtle polyp.”
“This was potentially life-saving for you — I’m not kidding, I’m not being overly dramatic,” the doctor said. “This is exactly why you do this. You had no symptoms.”
About the polyp, the doctor said, “You are interrupting the natural history of a disease of something of a process that could have ended up developing into cancer and causing all sorts of problems.”
The doctor then made clear that colonoscopies save lives.
