But behind the scenes, several writers have told Variety under the condition of anonymity that they’re frustrated about a grey area in strike rules that have left them in limbo. These projects tend to be set up with the U.K. branches of “struck” companies like Disney or Netflix, but aren’t covered by WGA terms. As these multi-national businesses have grown their local productions in recent years, many British writers who are also WGA members fall into this camp, and are being pressured to walk away.

Amazon’s $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM last year has opened the door for Amazon Studios to develop new projects based on some of the studio’s hottest properties, and news is emerging of some upcoming reboots, remakes and sequels currently being considered.

After streaming giant Amazon acquired MGM Studios, it was a little unclear what active properties and projects in development would move forward. Thankfully, a new report from Deadline is giving us a better idea of what could be coming soon from that heap of high-profile IP at Amazon Studios.

Amazon is reportedly contemplating reboots for around a dozen hit movies and series that were owned by MGM after acquiring the studio.

Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer Gov. Gavin Newsom’s push to extend the California film and TV tax credit has hit a snag over the issue of industry diversity. Newsom’s budget proposal includes extending the $330 million filming incentive, which is currently set to expire in 2025, for an additional five years. But at a hearing last month, Assemblyman Phil Ting, who chairs the Budget Committee, faulted the California Film Commission for failing to produce diversity data for productions that have already received tax benefits. He also questioned the need to “rush” the extension without first seeing the data.
