The Staples Center might have been overflowing with musicians on Sunday night but Hollywood’s Raleigh Studios was packed with guests who gathered to celebrate the night with Steven Tyler for his Grammy viewing party.

It appears the team will not be having fun on the farm when they answer a call about a corn silo-turned-deathtrap on the next installment of 9-1-1: Lone Star. In this exclusive new clip from Monday night's new episode, which is titled "Texas Proud," some of the firefighters find themselves in over their heads — literally speaking — when a safety device fails during their attempt to rescue a man who's been sucked inside the metal storage unit.

I probably shouldn't be telling you this, but Fox's new franchise expansion of the impressively successful 911 —a Texas-set incarnation fittingly called 911: Lone Star— uses a backdrop of first-responder thrills as cover for an exploration of masculine fragility and definition-defying heroism.

In some ways, Rob Lowe is a fit for the Ryan Murphy universe. Something about his actorly vanity — so much a part of his star persona that it tends to impact every project he works on — feels lurid and unseemly in exactly the bad-taste way as does much of Murphy’s work. A plotline, for instance, in which a cancer patient has to choose between lifesaving treatments and his hair-regrowth therapy might be a tidy morality tale of the sort that bulk out “American Horror Story” episodes.

Everything may be bigger in Texas, but 9-1-1: Lone Star isn't trying to outsize its parent show, 9-1-1. In fact, the spin-off, which introduces a new Austin-based team of first responders, is an intentionally tighter and tamer version of the disaster procedural.
