Rob Edwards to Make Directorial Debut With Animated Feature ‘Sneaks’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Emilio Mayorga Stuttgart-based sales company Sola Media has taken international rights to animated feature “Gus, the Guide Dog,” currently in pre-production and to be directed by Portugal’s Bruno Simões, an animation director and previs artist who has worked on films such as “Skyfall,” “Epic” and “Rio 2.”Family-oriented “Gus” is produced by Roger Torras at Barcelona’s WKND,  Humberto Santana at Animanostra (Portugal), and Xosé Zapata at Sygnatia (Spain).

Emilio Mayorga The director of the Quirino Awards-nominated “Cranston Academy: Monster Zone,” Mexico’s Leopoldo Aguilar, will direct “Bem & I.”It will be produced by Mexico’s Espíritu Santo Cine and Pēek Paax animation studio, both of whom backed this year’s Quirino best feature winner, “A Costume for Nicholas.”Mexico’s Espíritu Santo is a recently-founded company devoted to producing family-targeting cinema content. The company is run by Dariela Pérez.

Deadline explained that she began writing the film in 2017 and that the film’s title “Pussy Island” was something of a joke, but that it took on deeper meaning as conversations about sexuality have evolved. “It alludes to this time and place we claim to not be in anymore, in terms of sexual politics.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media ReporterGina Rodriguez is teaming up with professional boxer Ryan Garcia to develop a sports drama about the athlete’s experiences as a Mexican American lightweight champion.Rodriguez, best known for The CW’s take on a telenovela “Jane the Virgin,” is directing, co-starring and producing the film.

Gina Rodriguez is stepping into the ring in what marks her directorial debut as Rodriguez, Ryan Garcia, One Community and Endeavor Content are teaming up to develop a feature film about a fictional character inspired by some of Garcia’s experiences in and around the sport as a Mexican-American boxer. Rodriguez will direct, star, produce and will co-write the screenplay with actor and playwright Bernardo Cubria.  Garcia will also star star.
