Riverdale came to an end after seven seasons on the CW revealing that the show’s four main characters, Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead, ended up in a polyamorous foursome.
Viewers were able to witness each of the characters hook up with each other, including Betty and Veronica. However, Archie and Jughead were never seen experimenting which left some fans puzzled as to why this never occurred.
Now Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is opening up as to why KJ Apa’s Archie and Cole Sprouse’s Jughead were never seen hooking up.
“We did not shoot KJ and Cole hooking up,” Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine in an interview. “We hadn’t even really laid even the barest seed of there being a romance between Archie and Jughead. Not even a whisper of that… We hadn’t really explored or even hinted at that, where we had with all the other couplings.”

Although Aguirre-Sacasa says that writers pondered on the idea of a hookup between Archie and Jughead, never came to be. Looking back at it, the Archie Comics boss thinks a scene between the male characters kissing would’ve “been great” adding, “I think everyone would’ve been up for it. I think Cole and KJ would’ve completely been up for it. Who doesn’t want to see that?”
