Riot police have descended on a street in Dundee this evening following reports of a large scale disturbance.
Emergency services raced to Beauly Avenue and Beauly Square in the Kirkton area of the city after the alarm was raised at around 7.45pm on Tuesday. It's understood around 60 youngsters are wreaking havoc in the area.
Fires have been set off in nearby Craigmore Street, where youngsters have reportedly been trashing an empty house. According to the Courier, a mob chased away uniformed police, who have been replaced by riot police in an attempt to calm the situation. It's understood fireworks have also been set off.
Footage shared on social media showed a road blocked off by burning wheelie bins with a gang of masked youth standing at the other side. Four riot police vans were pictured in the area earlier this evening as it appeared officers anticipated trouble.
The leader of Dundee city council said he was “incredibly angry” and branded those involved “morons”.
In a post on Facebook, Councillor John Alexander wrote: “Absolute morons. Once again, a small group brings the area down and for what… a chase, to appear ‘hard’ or for ‘fun’. Pathetic, ugly and a sad sight.
