It was an issue pinpointed by former captain Rio Ferdinand ahead of United's 1-0 Champions League win over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday. He was asked specifically about Casemiro, who cost £70million last summer and penned a four-year deal, aged 30.
"I don’t think you look at just one player in this situation, if you look at over the last 10 years or so, the recruitment of players is awful," Ferdinand told TNT Sports. "Who out of those players would you say have been sold for more than what they paid?
"That tells you everything because it’s poor recruitment and poor coaching staff because they’re not improving when they get here. There’s different areas of the club that need to be looked at because it’s not just one area that needs improving."
