Lindsey Weber, who is an executive producer on the series, says no.
While fans were convinced that the actor in frame was in fact Anson Boon, and that was indeed portraying Sauron, that’s not the case at all.
The actor in the still is actually Bridie Sisson, who previously starred in Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop – and no, she’s not Sauron.
Lindsey didn’t confirm the name of the character, she did offer a tantalizing hint about her origins.
“We are enjoying all the speculation online and can tell you Bridie Sisson is an incredible actor,” she shared with Time. “We also thought fans might like to know that her character is traveling from far to the east—from the lands of Rhûn……”
That hint will definitely be known to Middle-Earth fans, as Rhûn was home to a people called the Easterlings in the Second and Third Ages. Rhûn also happens to be Sauron’s stomping grounds. The dark lord consolidates power in the East, and soldiers from Rhûn fight alongside orcs and other men in his armies against the men of the West.
While we now have insight on just who this is in the trailer – that doesn’t debunk theories that Anson is indeed portraying Sauron.
However, there are other theories around that suggest Sauron could be this character instead.
