Review: Jamestown Revival, more than just a roadhouse band

Jamestown Revival, “Young Man" (Thirty Tigers)The list of really good Americana roadhouse bands that have emerged from the Texas music scene over the years is a long one.

The list of those that distinguished themselves by doing something fresh and original, not so much.Jamestown Revival belongs on both lists now, thanks in part to its latest release, “Young Man." With a production assist from Robert Ellis, a fellow Texan and a true country music original, the band has stripped its sound down to its essence and, in the process, made music that shines as brightly as anything the band has ever done. The new album builds on the band's strengths, especially the brilliant harmonies of core members Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance.

They've always been great harmony singers — these are guys, after all, that have recorded commendable covers of “California Dreamin'" and classic Crosby, Stills & Nash, twin peaks in the range of harmony-based rock 'n' roll. Here Clay and Chance apply that same fearlessness to a stripped-down sound that somehow amplifies their talent in a range of styles. “Coyote," echoes the western stylings of Marty Robbins' classic, “Cool Water." The tradition-soaked melody of the title song delivers a perfect backdrop for wistful lyrics about aging and some of the best harmony-singing on the album.Clay gives a song called “These Days” a formidable slide-guitar backbone, and the closer, “Working on Love,” features the kind of gorgeous, angsty fiddle-playing that makes you want to weep. The danger for Jamestown Revival lies in the prospect of fading into background music, the harmonies so sweet and gentle they can be safely ignored. There's no chance of that happening here.

The Apprentice fans beg Navid to stand up for himself as he's shut down by Sophie
Navid Sole was certainly the talk of the town during the latest episode of The Apprentice after he was drastically shut down by Sophie Wilding during pitches. The young pharmacist previously put himself forward to pitch the team's non-alcoholic beer to potential buyers which seemed to be agreed. However, when it came to actually doing the task, team leader Sophie seemed to have a change of heart and expressed that she no longer wanted him to do it.Although Navid highlighted the fact that he was more than happy to pitch, he was also very soft with approach and quickly backed down on the idea.Seeing the awkward scene unfold fans rushed onto the social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts. One viewer wrote: "Navid should of stand his ground on the pitch maybe he be strong at it than pushing him away from it."Another penned: "Navid gets no respect." Three things Mikel Arteta got wrong but one he got right as Arsenal bow out to Liverpool
Arsenal are out of the Carabao Cup as goals from Diogo Jota in either half handed Liverpool a 2-0 victory on the night, setting up a clash with Chelsea in the final and the Gunners' expense. After a goalless draw at Anfield a week ago, Arsenal started the game with high spirits and dominated the opening stages, but Jota's goal against the run of play changed the complexion of the tie.The Gunners continued to battle after the break but failed to grab a goal back, and it was the visitors that added to their advantage as Jota got in behind the Arsenal defence before neatly finishing past Aaron Ramsdale.Defeat means that Arsenal's chances of silverware this season are over, and their attention is now solely on the Premier League as they look to climb back into the European places. It was a disappointing end to what was otherwise a decent cup run, and here Daily Star Sport assess what Mikel Arteta got right and wrong on the night...Gabriel Martinelli was clearly told to press Trent Alexander-Arnold down the left, and if was down that channel that Arsenal focused most of their attacks.Although Alexander-Arnold is one of the best in the world from his position, he does lack defensive qualities, and that was highlighted as Martinelli breezed past him on multiple occasions.Usually, Alexander-Arnold has Mohamed Salah as support, and the Egyptian does regularly help out, but in his absence it was 17-year-old Kaide Gordon that filled in, leaving Liverpool light.Arsenal may not have taken advantage of Liverpool's weaknesses, but it'll be something that Gunners legend Patrick Vieira will be very interested in, as his Crystal Palace side face the Reds on Sunday.Takehiro Tomiyasu has been sensational since making the switch to Arsenal on
