Review: Emily Blunt transcends overstuffed ‘Jungle Cruise’

Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Hulu, there are plenty of new films to enjoy, and no shortage of options on when and where to watch them.  This list includes the most exciting new releases available to see in theaters or stream from the comfort of your couch, with movies starring A-list actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Chris Pratt, Emily Blunt, Emma Stone, Tom Holland, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie and more.

Though you could say Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson are reteaming for a new film about real-life detective Kate Warne, this situation is a bit different than what we saw with “Jungle Cruise,” as Johnson is only serving as a producer. But still, the project has already caught the eye of Amazon Studios.

Stanley Tucci, 60, is one of the most talented actors in Hollywood and he has a glorious leading lady by his side every day to enjoy his success. The Hunger Games star is celebrating his ninth wedding anniversary with his wife Felicity Tucci this summer, making them one of the strongest couples in the entertainment industry. The devoted spouses also share two children, including son Matteo, 6, and daughter Emilia, 3, together, helping to further strengthen their bond.

Refresh for latest…: In its global launch, Disney’s Jungle Cruise grossed $61.8M at worldwide turnstiles. That does not include the “over $30M” that came from Disney+ in the day-and-date streaming release (which leads to $91.8M as Anthony has reported). In pure theatrical terms, the Dwayne Johnson/Emily Blunt-starrer performed ahead of expectations domestically, and came in vastly lower at the international box office compared to pre-weekend estimates.

Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” has many sights that awe its adventurers—a cove of towering waterfalls that empties from below, a spindly mega tree that sprouts luminescent red flowers in the moonlight, a violent set of rapids ready to suck boats over the edge. On the other hand, viewers will only see numerous uncanny valleys, related to when a visual is recognizable but distractingly not real.
