A councillor has vowed to get the 'criminal poison' out of a north Manchester town after a 'targeted and reckless' shooting last night. An investigation is underway after officers responded to reports of the suspected shooting on Rochdale Road in Harpurhey at around 11.20pm last night (Sunday).
It is thought that shots were fired at a property and no injuries were reported. However, police believe the shooting was 'targeted'.
A cordon was in place on Fernclough Road today while Tactical Aid Unit officers carried out investigations with sniffer dogs also used. Patrols have also been increased in the area.

Harpurhey councillor, Pat Karney, has reacted with 'alarm' at the incident, which he says has deeply worries local residents. He told the Manchester Evening News: "We welcome the extra police patrols in Harpurhey.
"Local residents are alarmed and anxious where this gun war will end. We will be seeking a meeting with the head of North Manchester Police about the growing use of guns and knives in our area.
"We will fight to keep this criminal poison out of Harpurhey."
This incident came just over a month after a mass brawl and shooting in the Irk Valley estate in Collyhurst on March 12. This incident was believed to have been linked to a similar incident days earlier on Tavistock Square, in Harpurhey, in what police called 'gang-linked' fighting.
Witnesses or any others with footage or information about last night's incident has been urged to come forward by police.

Alec Baldwin will return to the "Rust" set on Thursday as the western resumes filming after the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Fox News Digital can confirm. Principal photography will begin Thursday – roughly a year and a half after the production was halted due to Hutchins' tragic on-set death. "The production will continue to utilize union crew members and will bar any use of working weapons and any form of ammunition," Melina Spadone, attorney for Rust Movie Productions, told Fox News Digital in a statement.
