It looks like we might have a new Saturday Night Live tradition for hosts!

Regina King, who most recently stepped behind the camera for One Night in Miami, has set a new onscreen role, playing pioneering politician Shirley Chisholm. John Ridleywill write and direct Shirley, which will be produced by Participant.

Regina King wants to lead by example and remind Black women that their wildest ambitions are within reach.

Regina King is having a pretty great year and a half, isn’t she? Over her already-great career, she starred in numerous films and was already a household name, as an Oscar winner, when she landed the lead in “Watchmen.” However, the popularity of that show (and the awards recognition she received) opened her career up even more. And then you have her directorial debut, “One Night in Miami…” which is poised to make King an Oscar darling, only adding to her success.

Angelique Jackson Regina King is set to star in and produce “Shirley,” the feature film biopic about Shirley Chisholm, America’s first Black congresswoman.The film, produced by Participant, will be written and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker John Ridley, with production expected to begin later this year.

Oscar winner Regina King will portray America’s first Black Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm in the John Ridley written and directed feature Shirley which Participant will produce.

Saturday Night Live‘s Feb. 13 telecast, featuring Regina King in her hosting debut and musical guest Phoebe Bridgers, drew a 4.1 rating household Live+Same Day rating in the 44 metered local markets and a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Regina King made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut tonight and kicked off her show remembering her “pretty wild career.” However, the Oscar-winning actress knows that audiences may have first learned of her from different titles.

Nathaniel Rateliff, 42, is set to take the stage at SNL for the first time! With a unique sound that blends blues, folk, R&B and rock, Nathaniel will undoubtedly be serenading the audience. The St. Louis native took to social media to announce the news, posting an image of his name alongside host Regina King‘s. “Live from New York…,” he captioned the snap, clearly thrilled for the the big move.
