It means a rail replacement bus service is place for some Northern services. In a statement the rail company said: "Wigan North Western to Stalybridge services will terminate/start at Wigan Wallgate. Blackpool to Liverpool services will run between St Helens Central and Liverpool Lime Street only.
"Customers can travel from Manchester stations to Preston for rail replacement services. Services from Wigan Wallgate are not affected."

Northern tickets are being accepted on Transpennine Express and East Midlands services between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street and Metrolink trams between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria.
Buses will run between St Helens Central and Preston at noon and 1pm and from Preston to St Helens Central at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm.
