Her Majesty The Queen often enjoys a late night chocolatey snack in her bedroom, according to her former chef. It’s been previously revealed that the Queen enjoys chocolate cake from time to time, and it’s since come to light that she also takes a sweet treat to bed with her too. Darren McGrady worked for the Queen for the majority of the 1990s, and revealed the monarch’s love of chocolate.
Chatting to fellow chef Juliet Sear in Windsor for a segment on ITV's This Morning, Darren, who now lives in America, said: “The Queen loves chocolate. Anything dark chocolate - the darker the better, so she has little snacks and little boxes of chocolates in her room.” Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter. “But then usually it was just fruit and the Windsor peaches which she absolutely loved,” he added. Discussing the Queen’s favourite cakes, Darren went on: “There's the chocolate biscuit cake, which is the one that William chose as his groom's cake when he got married. “There's also the chocolate ganache sponge cake, which she has for her birthday every year.
“That cake dates back to Queen Victoria. Gabriella Tschumi was her chef and it's the same recipe they use in the kitchen today.” Darren has previously spilled on how the Queen would often eat a whole cake to herself – not in one sitting, however. He recalled to baking website RecipePlus: “The Chocolate Biscuit Cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again every day until it's all gone.
