Princess Bride actor Cary Elwes has been airlifted to the hospital after being bitten by a rattlesnake, according to reports. The 59 year old Britsh actor was said to be in his gardening at his Malibu home in California when the reptile struck. It is not known which part of his body was bitten.
According to the TMZ, the bite was so severe that he needed immediate medical attention and had to be airlifted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on Saturday. The publication reports that the due to nature of the accident, "people around him felt it was a life-threatening injury". Sources added to the site that Cary got the help he needed on time and is poised to make a "full recovery". OK! has contacted representatives for Cary for further comment.
According to UCI Health, a person's main priority after being bitten by a rattlesnake is to get to the hospital as quick as possible. It takes about four to six hours before the venom from the snake bite escalates into a severe situation. Cary is no stranger to accidents and was hospitalised twice while filming Princess Bride.
On one occasion, he was accidentally knocked out by a fight scene and required stitches. Upon returning to set, he broke his toe and required hospitalisation once again. A few years ago, there was talk of a Princess Bride reboot - but Cary was hesitant about the idea.
"For the studios, the cost of promotion and advertising has become so prohibitive now that they want to cut down on that," he told The Hollywood Reporter last year. "Their feeling is that when they do a reboot or remake, they have a target audience, so they don't have to spend as much on marketing. So I understand the motivation.
