Members of England’s national soccer team are speaking out against racist abuse directed at three Black players after England’s loss to Italy in the European Championship finals Sunday night. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka helped carry the England team through the tournament, but they missed penalty shots in the final match against Italy, and have been the targets of a torrent of racist abuse online.

During the Euro 2020 championship game on Sunday, July 11, Bukayo Sara, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, three Black members of England’s national soccer team, stepped up during the final penalty shots in hopes of defeating Italy. But when all three men missed their kicks, thus ending the game in an Italy victory, they became the subject of brutal racist attacks from online trolls. A mural of Marcus was even defaced in his native Manchester, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Prince William is personally speaking out against racist attacks hurled at Team England players Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho on social media after they missed penalty kicks during the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.The three players, who are Black, are among the youngest members of Team England.

After a close soccer match between Italy and England, Prince William recently stood up for the England team who were subject to racist attacks.
