EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video UK & Ireland has boarded a pair of British true-crime series — one about the infamous Moors Murderer Ian Brady.
Murder in the Red Light will launch on the Amazon streamer on April 19, with Becoming Ian Brady following on May 10 after Prime Video licensed them from distributor Abacus Media Rights. Both shows are from UK unscripted indie Woodcut Media.
This marks the latest time Prime Video has boarded a Woodcut show that Abacus sells globally. In October, we told you Amazon had boarded The Murder of Meredith, a doc about the horrific killing of British student Meredith Kercher, and in January about Patrick Mackay feature Confessions of a Psycho Killer.
The three-part Murder in the Red Light looks into the decades of murder cases of vulnerable sex workers that rarely made the headlines in the UK and were not police priorities. However, the discovery of five women’s bodies in two months in the British town of Ipswich in 2006 changed that, as it emerged the killer was one man, Steven Wright (aka ‘The Suffolk Strangler).
The series will explore the lives of the women, how police changed their approach after the Ipswich case and examines the public and media response.
Milly Alli is the producer, Jon Conchi the director and Matthew Gordon and Woodcut founder Kate Beal are executive producers.
Becoming Ian Brady presents the complete story of Britain’s most notorious killer Brady, who between July 1963 and October 1965 horrifically killed five children in the Greater Manchester area of England, along with his partner Myra Hindley.
Also running to three episodes, the series frames the story through Brady’s evolvement and twisted desires, while examining the impact of the murders and questioning how they

“The Power” has arrived on Prime Video, and it marks a somewhat rare occurrence on television: a show about and for women, directed almost entirely by women. Naturally, that was pretty appealing to the women in it — but also to some of the men.The series, adapted from Naomi Alderman’s 2016 book of the same name, follows multiple women all around the world, as they all begin to develop a new organ in their body that allows them to not only control but expel electricity at will.

Another year, another super-expensive TV series to premiere on Prime Video. And while the $250 million budget for “Citadel” isn’t as costly as “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power,” it indicates that Amazon wants its new spy thriller to be another juggernaut for its streamer.
David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller, “Dead Ringers,” starring Jeremy Irons, isn’t in most Top 3 lists for the filmmaker. Sure, there are fans of the original, but it doesn’t have the devoted fanbase as films such as “The Fly,” “Crash,” “Scanners,” and “A History of Violence,” for example.
Taylor Swift embarked on The Eras Tour two weeks ago, but she was one of the many celebrity names invoked in Gwyneth Paltrow's ski collision trial in Park City, Utah. The 50-year-old Goop lifestyle brand founder took the stand Friday to defend herself in a lawsuit filed by Terry Sanderson who claimed Gwyneth not only crashed into him causing traumatic injuries, but also skied away after the crash on the slopes at the Deer Valley ski resort in 2016. He initially sued Paltrow for $3.1 million, but a judge dismissed the claim and removed the exclusive resort and a ski instructor from the lawsuit before Sanderson proceeded with the $300,000 suit.

New rules are set to be introduced bringing the platforms under the purview of the U.K.’s media regulator Ofcom, which currently oversees both public and private broadcasters. The new Ofcom “content code” is designed to “protect audiences from a wider range of harmful material – such as misleading health claims” according to a press release issued by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (CMS) shortly before the latest draft of the bill was shared. The changes come as viewing habits and technology rapidly change the needs and practices of the screen industries. According to Ofcom, since 2011 linear viewing has dropped by 68% in the 16-24 demographic.
