A cinema in Wigan has closed its doors after its chain collapsed into administration. Empire Cinemas today announced it had entered administration with six of its cinemas, including the branch on Robin Park Road near the DW Stadium, ceasing trading today and being closed with immediate effect.
Any advance tickets bought for the cinema will be automatically refunded the firm's administrators from the accounting firm BDO, announced.
Customers with gift cards, ticket e-codes, guest passes and readmission tickets will be able to use these at one of the remaining Empire Cinemas sites.

The other branches to close are in Bishop's Stortford, Catterick Garrison, Sunderland, Swindon and Walthamstow, whilst the cinema at Sutton Coldfield, closed since November 2020, will not reopen the Mirror reports.
The move will result in the loss of 150 jobs. The group employs 437 staff across England and Scotland. They have blamed the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation and the cost of living crisis for the closures.
The company's cinemas in Birmingham, Clydebank, High Wycombe, Ipswich and Sutton, as well as two Tivoli branches in Bath and Cheltenham will remain open with the administrators hoping to find a buyer.
Tony Nygate, John Strowger and Danny Dartnaill at BDO have today been appointed as joint administrators.
Mr Nygate, BDO business restructuring partner, said: "The well-publicised challenges for the leisure sector from the impact of COVID-19, rising inflation and the cost-of-living crisis have significantly affected the Companies’ business.
"The remaining open sites are continuing to trade while we explore the sale of as much of the business as possible."
