UPDATE 2, 6/8/20, 2:41pm ET: Derek Chauvin was ordered to be held on a $1.25 million bail in his first court appearance since being arrested, on June 8. Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the May 25 death of George Floyd. He is due back in court on June 29, and faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.

The three other Minneapolis police officers who were fired for their involvement in George Floyd's death have been charged with aiding and abetting murder, according to court records obtained by CBS Minnesota. Additionally, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has also increased former officer Derek Chauvin's murder charge to second-degree murder.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is increasing charges against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin from third-degree to second-degree murder in the aftermath of George Floyd‘s tragic death.

Former Minneapolis Police Department officer Tou Thao was charged for his role in the death of George Floyd on June 3. The ex-officer, who was involved in a prior instance of police brutality before George’s death on May 25, was charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

Former Minneapolis Police Department officer J. Alexander Kueng was charged on June 3 with “aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter” over his involvement in the May 25 death of George Floyd, according to CNN.

Following the wave of peaceful protests (and violent police clashes) over the May 25 death of George Floyd at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers, former cop Thomas Lane, 37, was arrested for his involvement in the fatal arrest. Previously, ex-officer Derek Chauvin — the man identified as the one kneeling across George’s neck while he pleaded, “please, please, I can’t breathe – was charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder.

UPDATE, 6/3/20, 3:31pm ET: Derek Chauvin has now been hit with an additional charge of second degree murder in the death of George Floyd, according to the State of Minnesota. The felony charge includes a sentence of up to 40 years in prison, according to the amended complaint obtained by HollywoodLife. The complaint argues that Chauvin acted “without intent to effect the death of any person, while committing or attempting to commit a felony offense” when Floyd died.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has announced charges for the three remaining officers involved in the killing of George Floyd. Those three officers are Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Keung.

Derek Chauvin has a new mugshot and prison cell after he was charged with the murder of George Floyd on May 29. The disgraced former Minneapolis police officer was moved to Minnesota’s only level five maximum-security prison on June 1 — Oak Park Heights Prison, near the city of Stillwater. Chauvin was previously being held at the Hennepin County Jail following his arrest. He was officially charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of Floyd on May 29.
