Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” topped domestic box office charts while falling short of initial expectations. Tom Cruise’s latest blockbuster collected $56.2 million between Friday and Sunday, a lackluster start for a movie that cost nearly $300 million before marketing. Heading into the weekend, Paramount and Skydance’s action-adventure was projected to set a new franchise record with $60 million or more. Instead, ticket sales landed behind 2018’s “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” ($61 million) and 2000’s “Mission: Impossible II” ($57.8 million), which remain as the top openings in the 27-year-old series.
Tom Cruise appears ageless in his films. But Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie was close to de-aging Cruise as a gimmick in the new film’s opening sequence.
Harrison Ford was not completely impressed when he was presented with the costume he would be wearing as Indiana Jones for Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Tom Cruise’s mission, should he choose to accept it, is to save the summer box office… again. After a lackluster start to popcorn season (“The Flash,” “Indiana Jones” and “Elemental,” we’re looking at you), Paramount’s action-adventure “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” is hoping to bring people back to movie theaters across the globe. The big-budget tentpole is projected to collect at least $60 million between Friday and Sunday. Anything more than that would cement a new opening weekend benchmark for the long-running, globe-trotting spy series. “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” currently holds the record with $61 million, followed by 2000’s “Mission: Impossible II” with $57.8 million.
In a move to inject some excitement into its regular season, the National Basketball Association has unveiled its new in-season tournament.
Karen Allen is best known to fans as Marion, the longtime love of Harrison Ford‘s title character in the long-running Indiana Jones franchise.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director A July 2000 clip from “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” has gone viral on social media for featuring the eponymous late night host making a joke to Harrison Ford about the actor playing Indiana Jones when he’s 80 years old. That panned out to be somewhat true in the recently-released “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which opened in theaters just a few weeks before Ford turns 81 years old. “People will never get tired of that genre,” O’Brien told Ford at the time. “When you’re 80 you could just do ones where they bring the treasures to you.” Ford burst into laughter, with O’Brien adding that an “Indiana Jones” movie starring an 80-year-old Harrison Ford could be titled, “Indiana Jones and the Comfortable Bed.”
Movie stars no longer “own” Hollywood, we are told, but two hallowed brand names owned much of the media space this week.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Harrison Ford roasted Conan O’Brien on a recent episode of the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast after the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” icon discovered O’Brien had “Han Solo” written down in his notes for the interview. The two men were playfully arguing about Ford’s ancestry, which led O’Brien to consult some info he had jotted down prior to the interview. “I refer you to this piece of paper right here,” O’Brien said. “That says, ‘Born and raised in Chicago to an Irish German father—'” Ford leaned over to take a look at O’Brien’s notes and then interrupted the host when he realized they included a reminder that Ford played Han Solo in the “Star Wars” franchise. Along with Indiana Jones, Han Solo is Ford’s most iconic character.
Tom Cruise is just getting started. The 62 year old actor has been promoting her latest film, “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning - Part One,” his seventh time playing the iconic role of Ethan Hunt. In a new interview, Cruise revealed he wants to keep playing the role for 20 more years.
profile.“The first day was so intimidating,” Mackie said. “I was so f–king nervous I couldn’t remember my lines. He’s Harrison f–king Ford.
Elizabeth Wagmeister Chief Correspondent SPOILER ALERT:This story discusses major plot developments in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which is now playing in theaters. Shaunette Renée Wilson (“The Resident,” “Black Panther”) landed the role of a lifetime when she was cast opposite Harrison Ford in his final “Indiana Jones” film. Wilson was hand-picked by director James Mangold to play Agent Mason in the major summer release. After a Zoom meeting with Mangold, she was cast and didn’t even have to audition, but when she received the script, she wanted to implement some changes.
SATURDAY AM: Refresh for chart…and more analysis Disney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is still bound to open at the bottom of end of tracking’s projection of $60M as this morning. I saw an estimate in The Flash vicinity of $55M last night and took an Alka Seltzer out of shock. Hopefully Dial of Destiny doesn’t fall apart tonight and at least stays on course for a Mission: Impossible – Fallout type opening in the $60M range over three days. That figure might be good for exhibition and popcorn sales over the five-day holiday weekend, but it stinks for a movie that has a reported cost of $250M to near $300M before P&A.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”Mohammed Kamel, 46, was “one of the bad guys” who had the honor of being struck with a booze bottle by none other than “Fleabag” actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge.And the six-week stint, he revealed, earned him a bigger paycheck than his role as an educator.“What you make in a month teaching, you do that in a week or five days of acting,” Kamal, who comes from “humble beginnings,” told Metro UK. “It’s four times or five times as good.
Harrison Ford is set to appear on-screen as Indiana Jones for the last time with the fifth installment of the franchise, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." In May, the actor broke the news to fans during a presentation at the D23 Expo in an emotional speech, saying, "This is it. I will not fall down for you again." He also thanked the fans for helping to make playing Indiana Jones so special. "Indiana Jones movies are about fantasy and mystery, but they're also about heart," he said through tears.
Tom Cruise is showing off his support for all the major movies coming out this summer in theaters.
Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” is gunning for the top spot on box office charts. The fifth and final adventure to star Harrison Ford as the legendary, globe-trotting explorer is targeting at least $65 million from 4,500 North American theaters in its opening weekend. The latest Indy installment is also debuting day-and-date at the international box office, where it’s aiming to add $80 million for a global start of $145 million to $150 million. Those ticket sales are decent, especially for the fourth sequel to a decades-old property that’s aimed at older audiences. But Disney spent a mind-boggling $295 million to bring the action-adventure to life. That’s not including marketing costs, such as a no-expense-spared premiere and afterparty at the Cannes Film Festival where much champagne was tippled. Even in the best circumstances, it’ll take a heroic feat — and a lot of nostalgia from long-time fans of the series — for “Indiana Jones 5” to turn a profit in its theatrical run.
