“60 Minutes” interview that aired Sunday, Alecia Moore Hart, aka Pink, 44, revealed that before she was a global superstar known for singing up-side down and performing aerial stunts to sold-out stadiums, she nearly died from a drug overdose, just weeks before signing a record deal. The Grammy winning singer, who has two kids — son Jameson, 6, and daughter Willow, 12, with her motocross star husband Carey Hart, 48 — described the incident. She revealed that during Thanksgiving of 1995, she went to a rave where she took “ecstasy, angel dust, crystal. All kinds of things…Then I was out.
Done. Too much.”When she was asked whether she “almost died,” Pink replied, “Yeah.”She elaborated that she had dropped out of high school, and had a volatile relationship with her parents, with one fight with her mom even becoming physical, which is one of her “regrets” in life. She described herself as, “Off the rails.
I was a punk. I had a mouth. I had a chip on my shoulder.
Basically I grew up in a house where every day my parents were screaming at each other, throwing things. They hated each other. I got into drugs.
I was selling drugs.”Pink grew up in Pennsylvania, and her parents divorced when she was young. Mere weeks after her overdose, Pink “signed to LaFace Records” with the girl group Choice as “token white girls on a Black label,” she said. She later found mainstream success after she launched her solo career in 2000, and her star has only risen since.
