Boygenius spoke out for trans rights last night (April 15) as they made their second appearance at Coachella 2023.The trio featuring – Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker – previously teamed up with MUNA the previous day (April 14) at the festival to perform the track ‘Silk Chiffon’.Arriving onstage to Thin Lizzy‘s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’, the band played a host of tracks from their debut album ‘The Record’ including ‘$20’, ‘Salt In The Wound’, ‘Me & My Dog’ and ‘Anti-Curse’.During the set, at one point Baker spoke up for trans rights. “I don’t know if you’ve been checking the news and seeing what’s been going on in Florida and Missouri and some of the other places, but trans lives matter, trans kids matter.

MUNA just finished their first set at Coachella 2023, performing 45 minutes of indie-pop gems spanning their full catalogue – including a preview of its next chapter, with the first-ever play of a new song called ‘One That Got Away’.The band confirmed the song’s existence earlier this week, imploring fans to “sleep with one eye open”. They later revealed the song’s title and release date – it’ll hit streaming platforms this coming Monday (April 17), with pre-saves available here.‘One That Got Away’ is “a song about fumbling the bag”, frontwoman Katie Gavin said.

There’s been a little bit of a Boygenius time-out, of course, since the trio’s fairly spontaneous debut EP came out in 2018 and the release of their first full album as a collective, “The Record,” on March 31. But it hasn’t been for a lack of thought and effort going on behind the scenes, as the waiting world has now learned. As Bridgers says in an interview with Variety, “We realized the other day that we’ve been making this record for longer than we haven’t been, as friends,” since she dates its origin point to the week after she issued her “Punisher” album in 2020.

In fact, the whole thing was filmed on an iPhone in a little over a day. The bandmates took turns filming each other doing "hooligan shit" (Baker's words) around Los Angeles, with stops at the Santa Monica Pier amusement park, an arcade, and a museum. While the concept ("women laughing") may sound contrived, their genuine love for each other transcends the screen, infecting the viewer with secondhand joy.

While speaking to Them magazine for an interview published on Wednesday, the Kyoto singer recalled travelling to her father’s wake in January this year when a group of supposed fans made disparaging remarks about her online while she was at the airport.
