Manchester City players were disappointed to have only beaten Real Madrid by one goal in their breathless Champions League semi-final first leg.
City raced into a 2-0 lead within 11 minutes through Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus, but Karim Benzema's clever goal reduced the deficit at half time. Phil Foden restored the two-goal lead shortly after the break, but Vinicius Jr quickly made it 3-2 as he ran half of the pitch to score.
When Bernardo Silva thrashed home a beauty, City looked to take a two-goal cushion to the Bernabeu next week, but Aymeric Laporte's handball allowed Benzema to chip in a penalty and keep Real firmly in the tie. After the game, Foden and Bernardo looked like they had been beaten when speaking to BT Sport after the game.

"I think the first 20 minutes we were so so good, the way we pressed, controlled the game, the way we created chances," Bernardo said, admitting that City should have secured a better lead after the first leg.
"Over 90 minutes we felt we could have won with a better score. Unfortunately, we were not able to take advantage of two-goals differences three times in the game. That's the Champions League, against one of the best teams in the world. It's still 4-3, we've got a one-goal advantage.
"[The penalty] was frustrating, we were controlling the game so well with possession, not allowing counters. the goal came out of nowhere, we were unlucky.
Foden agreed, adding: "For the fans watching it was a great game, lots of goals. Against a team who have won the Champions League many times, if you give the ball away in dangerous areas they punish us. We know what to do over there.
