Peter Kay was forced to halt his stand-up show last week as three of his audience members required urgent medical attention. Last year, the former Coronation Street cameo announced his first tour in over a decade, Peter Kay Live: Better Late Than Never, which almost instantly sold out across the country, with Peter himself later taking to social media to announce further ticket sales.
So far, the tour has been a massive hit, and on one occasion, the 49 year old comedian and actor was reduced to tears on the stage. Disaster struck last Thursday March 9, however, when Peter was on stage at the Newcastle Utilita Arena and found himself in a difficult position as a fan in the front row became ill.
According to The Mirror, Peter is said to have stopped the performance almost immediately as he left the stage to assist the audience member. The fan was issued a wheelchair and later brought out of the crowd, with another audience member telling The Sun: "Peter asked if they were being serious, then he asked for the big lights to go on and stewards ran over to see what was going on. "He then went off stage for around 10/15 mins and one person was seen getting wheelchaired out." But the chaos continued as two more audience members were later taken ill as Peter returned to the stage to admit that “three went down” and he “hoped they were ok.” Peter’s comeback tour may be his most popular to date, with the likes of the Evening Standard and The Daily Star gushing about the show in their respective reviews.
Similarly, The Guardian’s Brian Logan awarded the show four stars while noting the “long, loud and, for Kay, tear-jerking” reception from fans. Concluding his review, he penned: “By the end of Kay’s return to the stage after 12 years
