At the center of the Spanish-language movie are three women – Rita (Zoe Saldaña), Jessi (Selena Gomez) and the title character Emilia Pérez (Karla Sofía Gascón) — who become forever bonded by their traumatic experiences in Mexico City’s cartel-run underbelly. William Earl Variety has announced the initial lineup for the Kering Women in Motion Talks at the Cannes Film Festival. This year’s talks include some of the most important women working in cinema. On May 18, Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh will interview NBCUniversal Studio Group chairman and chief content officer Donna Langley, touching on a major year for the studio that includes the upcoming feature “Wicked.” The conversation comes at a pivotal time for Langley and the studio as Universal Pictures will receive the International Achievement in Film award from Variety at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and Langley is receiving the Women in Motion Award at a dinner hosted by Kering on May 19.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter “Lioness” has been renewed for Season 2 at Paramount+, Variety has learned. Previously titled “Special Ops: Lioness,” the series debuted its first season at the streamer in July 2023. It hails from Taylor Sheridan, who produced the series under his expansive overall deal with Paramount.

Lioness — the Taylor Sheridan drama starring Zoe Saldaña and Laysla De Oliveira — has been renewed for a second season by Paramount+.

As we mentioned yesterday, Zoe Saldana’s next movie is the gripping immigration drama, “The Absence of Eden,” Directed by Marco Perego, in the film, Garrett Hedlund plays an ICE Agent struggling with the moral dilemmas of border security, and Saldana stars as an undocumented woman fighting to escape a ruthless cartel (Adria Arjona co-stars). In the film, the two characters eventually cross paths and work together to save an innocent girl’s life (see the trailer below).
