Disney Entertainment is once again hosting its annual Disney FYC Fest.

“Will Trent” is set to return for a second season at ABC, the network announced Tuesday.The series, which airs the finale for its first season Tuesday, May 2, has emerged as No. 1 new drama this season both among total viewers with 9.9 million viewers on average and among adults 18-49 with an average 1.65 after 35 days of viewing across linear and digital platforms.

ABC has renewed drama series Will Trent, starring Ramón Rodríguez, for a second season. This marks the first ABC freshman show to get a renewal decision this season; it comes ahead of Will Trent‘s Season 1 finale on May 2.

Now ABC has set the season-finale dates for its series — including Ellen Pompeo’s return to Grey’s Anatomy — along with the final episodes of long-running comedy The Goldbergs and drama A Million Little Things. UPDATE, 10:05 AM: ABC has pushed the midseason premiere date for Alaska Daily back one week from its original Feb. 23 date. The drama series starring Hilary Swank will return for the remainder of its first season at 10 PM, Thursday, March 2, following Grey’s Anatomy. The network says the change was made to allow all five remaining new episodes to air in a row, which is possible with the new date.

EXCLUSIVE: 20th Television has extended its overall deal with Liz Heldens, co-developer and executive producer of the studio’s new crime drama Will Trent, starring Ramon Rodriguez, which premiers on ABC tonight. The project also had brought on seasoned writer-producer Phil Klemmer as co-showrunner. It will debut at midseason on ABC in 2023.

When Deadline ran the Summer Edition of its tradition Pilot Buzz column last week, ABC brass were yet to see some of their off-cycle pilots so information on the status of the five contenders at the network was murky.

It’s pilot season in July! The lasting impact of the pandemic on the traditional broadcast pilot cycle continues to be felt as production and pickup decisions on a sizable number of broadcast pilots has shifted off-cycle. ABC and NBC have five and six off-cycle pilots this year, respectively, while CBS has a decision to make on a project with a pilot production commitment, and Fox is eying more script-to-series orders. As usual, information is scarce and not always reliable early on but here is what I am hearing about various pilots. Keep in mind that not all projects are on the same timetable so if they are not mentioned, that could mean that there is not enough feedback on them yet. I hear NBC is ahead of ABC in the pilot evaluation process and may start making pickup decisions as early as this week. The networks have a little bit more time as most pilot cast options are believed to expire at the end of August.
