Patti Smith hosted a New York screening of Corsage last week, one of many showings since the Oscar-shortlisted Best International Feature contender premiered to a warm welcome in Cannes, where it won Best Performance, Un Certain Regard, for star Vicky Krieps as the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, Sisi for short. It’s fitting that Smith, royalty of the avant-garde, came out to support a film about an iconoclastic princess.

Writer-director Marie Kreutzer’s “Corsage,” was recognized with the festival’s highest honor — the best film award — continuing the historical drama’s festival praise after lead actress Vicky Krieps was awarded the Un Certain Regard best performance prize at Cannes. Set during Christmas in 1877, “Corsage” follows Empress Elizabeth as she attempts to find liberation from the stifling conformity of her stuffy, image-focused lifestyle as a Vienna royal. Though the film is in part based on the historical figure, who reigned for 44 years, artistic deviations are made in the former ruler’s story.

Austrian filmmaker Marie Kreutzer clinched the best film award in the main Official Competition of the 66th London Film Festival with her latest feature Corsage, starring Vicky Krieps.

Viggo Mortensen is set to star in, write and direct “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” a western love story set in the 1860s.The film also stars Vicky Krieps (“Bergman Island,” “Phantom Thread”) and is slated to begin shooting on Oct. 12 in Canada. “The Dead Don’t Hurt” is a Talipot Studio, Recorded Picture, and Perceval Pictures production, produced by Regina Solórzano (“Los Reyes del Mundo”), Oscar winner Jeremy Thomas (“EO”), and Mortensen.Talipot Studio is fully funding the film that will shoot predominantly in Durango, Mexico where Talipot will manage the production.

Viggo Mortensen is set to direct and star alongside Vicky Krieps in the western love story for The Dead Don’t Hurt. The film will start shooting on October 12 in Canada.

While she might not have the same A-list status in the US as someone like Jennifer Lawrence, Vicky Krieps is easily one of the best actors working today. After her breakout role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread,” Krieps has been one of the most consistent performers, delivering one astounding performance after another.

Pathé unveiled a sprawling 15-minute promoreel for both “The Three Musketeers” – D’Artagnan” and “The Three Musketeers – Milady” at Cannes Marché du Film. For all their faults, the 2020s are shaping up to be a welcome celebration of actor Vicky Krieps. The Luxembourg actress is perhaps best-known with domestic audiences for her performance in Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “Phantom Thread,” but with 2021’s “Bergman Island” and a pair of 2022 Cannes Film Festival titles (“Corsage,” “More Than Ever“) under her belt, she seems poised to enter that rare stratosphere of performers who move between national cinema and Hollywood with ease.

IFC Films has nabbed North American rights to “Corsage,” Marie Kreutzer’s bold costume drama starring Vicky Krieps as the Empress Elisabeth of Austria known as Sissi. Represented in international markets by MK2 Films, the movie world premiered at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard and earned unanimous praises.
