Nine Inch Nails just gave fans a whole bunch of new music to listen to while in self-isolation.

We're in this together now during the coronavirus outbreak, and Nine Inch Nails wants you to know it. Frontman Trent Reznor tweeted on Thursday (March 26) that the band had dropped Ghosts V-VI for free download on NIN.com, and that the albums would be available on all streaming services in the evening.

On March 8, Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral celebrated its 26th anniversary. A massive commercial success, the extremely dark concept album dealt with ideas of death and morality. According to a 1997 interview with Rolling Stone, NIN’s Trent Reznor said that part of what inspired him was the unique location he was living while writing it: the home where star Sharon Tate was murdered by Charles Manson acolytes in 1969.

Trent Reznor is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his band Nine Inch Nails. The frontman appeared on Rolling Stone’s Music Now podcast, where he offered his definition of rock—and he has a more inclusive idea of the spirit of the genre.

Nine Inch Nails, a banjo and Lil Nas X made unlikely bed partners in the genre-bending mega-smash “Old Town Road,” which included a track from NIN’s largely instrumental 2008 album “Ghosts I–IV.” But while Trent Reznor and frequent collaborator Atticus Ross receive co-producer/co-writer credits for having created the hit’s hook, don’t expect their names to be called if “Old Town Road” should win record of the year.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will rejoin forces with The Social Network director David Fincher to score new movie Mank, Revolver reports. Trent Reznor has criticized the Bird Box production team over its use of his and Atticus Ross’ music in a pointed interview with Revolver. Blaming a film editor with “bad taste” and an unsatisfactory mix of their music, he called the experience a “fucking waste of time.” He also announced his and Ross’ departure from new Amy Adams film The Woman in the Window, citing the studio’s “transformation” of the Joe Wright–directed movie after test screenings.
