Liz Feldman is about to deliver her second comedy to Netflix: The streamer has greenlit her new dark comedy No Good Deed.

EXCLUSIVE: In her third promotion in a little over three years, Netflix‘s Head of Drama Jinny Howe is further expanding her oversight to all of the streamer’s drama areas, adding Spectacle + Event, current series and shows coming out of Netflix’s roster of overall deals to her purview.

Netflix is ready to debut its scripted comedy featuring rapper Vince Staples.

Vince Staples and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris are set to collaborate on a comedy series for Netflix.The rapper will executive produce and star in The Vince Staples Show, a scripted comedy series loosely based on his life.Set in his hometown of Long Beach, California, Staples will produce the series alongside Barris, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth and Calmatic, who is set to direct the first two episodes. Edelman and Williams will serve as co-showrunners on the project.“I am excited to partner with Netflix and Kenya Barris on The Vince Staples Show,” Staples said.

Rapper Vince Staples is set to headline his own scripted comedy series at Netflix. The streamer has given a series order to The Vince Staples Show, starring and executive produced by the critically acclaimed artist, actor and creator, from Kenya Barris and his Khalabo Ink Society.

Staples will star in the show as himself. The show will be set in Long Beach, CA, where Staples grew up.Staples will executive produce in addition to starring. Kenya Barris is also executive producing via Khalabo Ink Society. Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth and Calmatic also executive produce. Edelman and Williams are co-showrunners on the series. Barris, Edelman, and Williams also executive produced Kid Cudi’s animated Netflix show “Entergalactic.” Calmatic will direct the first two episodes of “The Vince Staples Show.”

“‘No Good Deed’ was inspired by my many late nights during the early pandemic maniacally searching Zillow listings for a way out of my house,” Feldman said in a statement. “I’m endlessly grateful to Netflix for being such a supportive creative home and for continuing to allow me to turn my crippling anxiety into entertainment.”The upcoming series is part of Feldman’s overall deal with Netflix.

But as the sellers have already discovered, sometimes the home of your dreams can be a total nightmare.

It’s been a tough few weeks for Netflix. The streamer lost subscribers for the first time in over a decade and its market value took a battering, losing over $50 billion in one day after its disappointing first quarter earnings.

The series is set in a cutting-edge biotech research company, following an introverted, socially-challenged son who goes to work for his very successful, wildly eccentric father in order to save him from disaster. “We are very excited to be working with Victor, Rob and John Owen,” Tracey Pakosta, Netflix head of comedy, said in a statement.

Brian Wright, who has been heading its Overall Deals department, will exit.
