The conversation will address the key issues that writers are fighting for as they share why the strike matters to Hollywood and entertainment unions at large. The panel will host Zoanne Clack (WGA West), Greg Iwinski (WGA East, negotiating committee), Damon Lindelof (WGA West) and Julie Plec (WGA West) and will be moderated by Beau Willimon (WGA East). The festival has cancelled select programs, including “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the “Andor” conversation with Tony Gilroy, “Tiny Beautiful Things” conversation with Liz Tigelaar and Cheryl Strayed and the “Dawson’s Creek” 25th Anniversary Screening & Conversation.

The yearly ATX Television Festival will adjust its schedule to accommodate conversations about the ongoing writers strike, some of which will replace previously announced panels. The Austin-based event runs from June 1 – 4.

Andor creator/showrunner Tony Gilroy says he has ceased all non-writing producing duties on the Disney+ series amid the WGA strike.

As you have no doubt already heard, the WGA is on strike right now. Just over a week into it, this strike has already caused quite a few disruptions, with productions being halted and development coming to a standstill.

Bradley was hired to write on the 2022 Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel,” part of her job entailed going to set every day to help with re-writing scenes on the fly while the show was being filmed. “It was a mixture of everything from wanting to add new characters into the show to needing to change things because of location,” Bradley tells Variety. Just one example: The day the production was set to shoot a chase sequence at Marriott hotel, she helped to add a beat where the chase entered the kitchen because it was nearby. “Why not use what you have?” This kind of scenario is, of course, no longer possible during the ongoing writers strike. “Pens down” means no WGA member can write or change scripts whatsoever, before, during or after production. In many cases, that has meant that showrunners have left their shows entirely, like “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay or “Cobra Kai” executive producer Jon Hurwitz. Other writers rooms have shut down in advance of production on their next seasons, like “Abbott Elementary” and “Yellowjackets.”

Denise Gough has done enough television to know that sometimes what you read in a script doesn’t always make it to the screen. Lucasfilm still hasn’t released a “Star Wars” feature film since 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” But that hasn’t slowed down the studio’s live-action division as they have been primarily focused on creating original TV content for Disney+. It’s hard to argue that one of their more prestige series is “Andor,” a prequel focusing on the origins of Rebellion spy Cassian Andor while also exploring other rebels running things secretly on Coruscant under the looming threat of being discovered by the Empire.

Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Celebration event has hit London, where Lucasfilm execs and creatives are currently revealing some of the projects the studio is set to blast into a galaxy far away.

Set five years before the events of “Rogue One,” the first season tracks a year in the life of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as he transforms from a cynical, small-time criminal into a man ready to join the fight against the Galactic Empire. Gilroy explained on Friday that the team is working as quickly as possible to get Season 2 done. Shooting began in November and is expected to wrap in August. The creator predicted the show will hit Disney+ in August 2024.

For those who remember, 2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” had a bit of a troubled production.  Gareth Edwards directs the film, but Disney brought in Tony Gilroy, already an uncredited writer on the movie, to do reshoots. Now Freddie Prinze Jr., voice actor of Kanan Jarrus on “Star Wars Rebels,” has a bold claim.

If you’re a fan of “Star Wars,” Lucasfilm, and particularly the storytelling on Disney+— not that you have much choice, there hasn’t been a “Star Wars” movie in movie theaters since 2019’s ‘Rise Of Skywalker’—you may be frustrated. While it’s possible that Tony Gilroy’s “Andor” series gave you some respite and relief from some of the episodic Lucasfilm storytelling on Disney+, there are legitimately lots of reasons to be unfulfilled.

We’re still buzzing after the season one finale of Tony Gilroy’s fantastic “Star Wars” series “Andor,” a prequel taking place before the events of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” One of the more well-written and executed modern “Star Wars” projects that showed that there were still some untapped places that creatives could explore within the universe that feel fresh and exciting.

“Andor” season one has come to a wrap with episode 12, “Rix Road,” an incredibly moving, incredibly rousing, symphonic crescendo where Maarva Andor (Fiona Shaw) makes a defining call to action to Ferrix and to the galaxy: to stop sleeping, to wake up, and to fight. Arguably the best episode of the series, it’s up there with the best episodes of TV we saw all year, full stop.

Disney+’s Andor is getting a cross-company push. The first two episodes of the Star Wars prequel series will air across Disney’s distribution platforms including ABC, FX, Freeform and Hulu over the Thanksgiving holiday, coinciding with the Season 1 finale on the streamer.
