Hallmark previously announced that it would be reworking the film series Aurora Teagarden as part of Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, with a prequel. Bure starred in the popular Hallmark franchise as the titular librarian for 18 films.

Ben Wheatley undoubtedly blew some cinephile minds a few years ago when he was announced as the director of “Meg 2: The Trench,” a follow-up to 2018’s fun-enough August blockbuster “The Meg.” Turns out Wheatley’s attempt at being a popcorn salesman ain’t so good, but the pitch must have been spectacular: sea explorers navigating unchartered darkness and facing its monsters like “Alien”; massive, unforeseen creatures like “King Kong“; a bombastic human buffet like “Jurassic Park”; a big freakin’ shark à la “The Meg,” but now with even more sharks, with a pre-packaged Jason Statham kicking their tails one at a time.

Her mother, Aida (Marilu Henner), struggles to keep her newfound real estate business, while Aurora supports herself by working as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class and waitresses at the local diner in the evenings, where she shares her love of true crime with her friend, Sally (Kayla Heller), and police officer, Arthur (Evan Roderick).Of course, something arises that puts Aurora's sleuthing skills to use: When Sally’s fiancé doesn’t show up at their wedding rehearsal, Aurora recruits Arthur to help her search for him.

Jason Statham is getting back in action with Meg 2: The Trench!

The original film followed a group of scientists whose submarine was attacked by a Megladon —  a species of giant shark previously thought to be extinct. While details about “Meg 2” have been under wraps since production began in early 2022, Warner Bros. has pulled back the curtain on the film after debuting its first trailer ahead of the movie’s Aug. 4 premiere. As the title suggests, the team of scientists will return to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean where the Megalodon was discovered in the original film. Picking up a few years after the timeline in “The Meg,” Statham’s character, Jonas Taylor, and his research team discover the thought-to-be extinct Kronosaurus, an alligator-adjacent creature that lived during the Early Cretaceous period over 100 million years ago.

On Thursday, the network announced the return of the franchise with a new prequel series, “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New,” set to premiere later this year. Skyler Samuels will star as young Aurora, while Evan Roderick will play young Arthur. Marilu Henner will return as Aida Teagarden. “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New” is set after Aurora has graduated college and returns home in Lawrenceton. “While her mother, Aida, struggles to keep her newfound real estate business, Aurora supports herself by working as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class, and waitresses at the local diner at night, where she shares her love of researching true crime with her friend Sally and police officer Arthur,” Hallmark’s press release reads. “When Sally’s fiancé doesn’t show up at their wedding rehearsal, Maid of Honor Aurora gets Arthur to help her search for him.
