Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Former ABC News president James Goldston is joining Candle Media, founded and led by ex-Disney execs Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs, to head a new division focused on TV shows and movies based on true stories. Goldston will serve as president of the new division, which will produce scripted and nonscripted features and series “inspired by true stories,” according to Candle. Goldston spent 18 years at ABC News, including seven years as president, before exiting in 2021. overseeing all aspects of America’s number one news division, including #1 rated “Good Morning America” and “World News with David Muir.” He also led ABC News into the streaming era with a series of successful podcast and documentary projects for Hulu and Disney+, including “The Dropout,” produced by Rebecca Jarvis and her team, which became a successful podcast, documentary and Emmy-award winning scripted series for Hulu, and John’s Ridley’s “Let it Fall,” a duPont-Columbia Award-winning documentary on the LA riots. His teams have won five Edward R. Murrow Awards for Overall Excellence, and numerous other prestigious honors in journalism, including a Peabody, duPont-Columbia, and Emmy awards.

Elizabeth Holmes loved to do, which is why it's been incorporated into, Hulu’s true-crime series chronicling the explosive realization that her once groundbreaking biotech startup was built on lies and fraudulent data. While speaking to ET by phone and at the 92Y for their recent Recanati-Kaplan Talks event, Amanda Seyfried and showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether broke down all of Holmes’ awkward dancing and the series’ incredible music cues, from Len’s “Steal My Sunshine” to “Y Control” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. “The music ended up becoming such a big part of the show and it started with the anecdote in the podcast about Elizabeth Holmes dancing in her car alone,” Meriwether says, referring to the ABC News investigative series hosted by Rebecca Jarvis which is adapted from. “That really stuck out to me because I was just really trying to imagine what Elizabeth Holmes is like when nobody’s watching her.”From the very first episode, Holmes is seen dancing by herself at various points throughout the story, whether she’s alone in her room, in the car between investor meetings or lost in her head after a long job.

“The Dropout”Thursday, March 3, HuluBased on the podcast of the same name by Rebecca Jarvis, “The Dropout” follows Elizabeth Holmes (played by Amanda Seyfried after Kate McKinnon, um, dropped out) and her short-lived tech company, Theranos. And you know what that means – fraud season continues! If you haven’t heard of Holmes (or watched the excellent HBO documentary “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley”), she touted a new technology wherein blood could be tested from a single drop. Of course, the idea had no basis in reality and she still managed to swindle plenty of people and wind up on the cover of magazines as the next Silicon Valley whiz kid.

Elizabeth Holmes’ trial over fraud charges came to a close, Hulu has debuted the first trailer for the limited series  starring Amanda Seyfried as the disgraced Theranos founder. The first official look comes ahead of the true-crime saga’s debut on the streaming platform in March. Described by Hulu as “an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong,” will chronicle Holmes’ incredible rise to become “the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire” before losing it all when her ambitions of revolutionizing the healthcare industry proved to be nothing more than a false (and fraudulent) promise.
