The Peabody Awards are revealing their 2024 nominees in two batches this year and today was an opportunity to shine the spotlight on the non-narrative works. The Peabody Board of Jurors released the rest of the 2024 Peabody Awards nominees today and the results were somewhat surprising. The organization behind the Peabody Awards said Thursday that its 2024 ceremony is set to take place on June 9 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, as the group once again attempts to hold its first-ever awards show in Los Angeles.

Jaden Thompson Barbra Streisand has been chosen as the 59th recipient of SAG-AFTRA’s highest tribute, the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments. The honor will be presented to her at the 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which will stream live on Netflix on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m.

Caroline Brew editor National Geographic has signed a first-look deal with Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning production company Muck Media for unscripted series and specials. Muck and National Geographic have previously collaborated on “Trafficked With Mariana van Zeller,” which is nominated for nine Emmys at the 2023 News & Documentary Emmy Awards. In “Trafficked,” van Zeller investigates shadow markets, criminal organizations and trafficking networks around the world.

Maddow, host of the Emmy Award-winning “The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC, will be honored with the 2023 Variety and Rolling Stone Truth Seekers Award, recognizing her extensive accomplishments in journalism, followed by a Q&A about her experience in the news industry. “The Rachel Maddow Show” has won three Emmy Awards, and Maddow individually has received seven Emmy nominations honoring her in-depth and thorough take on the biggest stories of the day and week. Maddow has also written, produced and hosted three original podcasts for MSNBC – “Rachel Maddow Presents: Bag Man,” which won a DuPont Columbia Award and was nominated for a Peabody Award in 2020; “Rachel Maddow Presents: Ultra,” which received the first-ever Hillman Prize for Broadcast Journalism for a podcast in 2023; and, most recently, the six-episode series “Rachel Maddow Presents: Deja News,” which debuts June 12, 2023.

The Peabody Awards revealed their 2023 winners in entertainment and for a number of programs it’s a welcome boost for their Emmy nomination prospects. Apple TV+ had three programs honored: “Bad Sisters,” “Pachinko” and “Severance.” HBO landed two winners in “We’re Here,” a rare non-fiction selection, and “Los Espookys,” a program the network disappointingly canceled in December.

Netflix has released the trailer for Hannah Gadsby’s next comedy special, titled “Hannah Gadsby: Something Special,” which will premiere globally May 9.

The Peabody Awards said Thursday that Lily Tomlin has won the Peabody Career Achievement Award, and Issa Rae the Peabody Trailblazer Award. The honors will be bestowed during a ceremony for the 83rd annual Peabody Awards on June 11 in Los Angeles.

CNN president Chris Licht has hired his first big on-air personalities — John Miller and Dr. Rara Narula — since succeeding Jeff Zucker in April with the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger.John Miller will join CNN as Chief Law Enforcement and Intelligence Analyst. Miller comes from the most recent position of NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence & Counterterrorism.

The Peabody Awards finished announcing its 82nd class of winners this morning and you could argue it saved the best for last. Joining previous winners “Hacks,” “Dopesick,” “Sort Of” and “Reservation Dogs” were Barry Jenkins’ “The Underground Railroad,” the celebrated Netflix special “Bo Burnham: Inside” and the Oscar-winning documentary “Summer of Soul,” among others.

After honoring “Reservation Dogs,” “Dopesick,” “Fresh Air with Terry Gross” and Dan Rather yesterday, the Peabody Awards continued their four-day rollout revealing seven additional winners. To no one’s surprise, HBO Max’s “Hacks” and the PBS docu-series “Philly D.A.” were among the winners.

Things may have gotten back to normal for much of the awards world, but the Peabody Awards are moving forward with one more virtual series of announcements for 2022. This year, the organization will be announcing different winners over the course of four days with notable presenters for each honorary program.

UPDATED with awards dates: The Peabody Awards said Tuesday that it will announce the winning projects in its newest category, Digital and Interactive Storytelling, on March 24. The inaugural awards will be given to legacy media projects, with the category being folded into the main Peabody ceremony beginning in 2023.

The Peabody Awards ended its four days of virtual announcements crowning Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe” as its final entertainment category winner. It was joined by acclaimed documentaries “Welcome to Chechnya” and “The Cave.” Apple TV+’s “Stillwater” rounded out the last children’s and youth category winner.

In the never-ending battle for prestige streamer dominance, today was a good day for Showtime. The Viacom division took two prestigious Peabody Awards for its limited series “The Good Lord Bird” starring Ethan Hawke and the news program “VICE on Showtime: Losing Ground.” Another Viacom production, MTV Films “76 Days,” won in the Documentary category.

The Peabody Awards kicked off five days, yes, five days of winners announcements on Monday, and today’s big winners were “Ted Lasso,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and the Oscar-nominated documentary, “Time.” These honors were presented virtually by Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and D.L. Hugley, respectively.

The 60 nominees for the 2021 Peabody Awards were revealed this morning and there were quite a few surprises on the narrative side. That being said, critically acclaimed programs such as “I May Destroy You,” “Small Axe,” “Ted Lasso,” “Never Have I Ever,” “Unorthodox” and “The Good Lord Bird” still made the cut.
