This should be a very good day for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. There is a diverse set of acting nominees with 7 of the 20 recepients being people of color.

The 2024 Oscars ceremony is less than two months away, and details about the show, the nominees and who may win are coming into focus.

On the morning of the 2024 Oscar nominations, Variety spoke to this year’s contenders — including “The Holdovers” star Da’Vine Joy Randolph and “Past Lives” director Celine Song — about getting recognized by the Academy. Barbie have been left fuming by the absence of Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig from the Oscar nominations.The film did receive a total of eight nods, announced earlier today (January 23), including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling and Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera.However, Gerwig missed out on the Director nominee list, with Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, Yorgos Lanthimos, Justine Triet and Jonathan Glazer all getting in ahead of her.Similarly, Robbie was left without an acting nomination, with the spaces being filled by Emma Stone, Lily Gladstone, Annette Bening, Sandra Huller and Carey Mulligan. Margot does, however, receive a nomination for Best Picture for her role as a producer on the film.

Lily Gladstone made history as the first Native American nominated for best actress, for her towering role as Mollie Burkhart in the crime thriller “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Colman Domingo became the first Afro Latino nominated in best actor for his powerhouse performance in the civil rights drama “Rustin.” He’s joined by fellow Black nominee Jeffrey Wright for “American Fiction.” This is only the second time in Oscar history where more than one Black actor, who wasn’t either Will Smith or Denzel Washington, was nominated for the leading prize.

A congested awards season rolled into the final stretch today with nominations unveiled for the 96th Academy Awards. A race for to the opening of those envelopes on stage at the Dolby Theatre in March for some, a non-starter for others.

Valerie Wu Intern Lily Gladstone has become the first Native American woman to be nominated for best actress at the Academy Awards. Gladstone was recognized for her role as Osage woman and historical figure Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s epic “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Gladstone’s nomination comes four years after Yalitza Aparicio, who is Indigenous Mexican, received a best actress nomination at the 2019 Oscars. Aparicio starred in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2018 film “Roma” as housekeeper Cleodegaria “Cleo” Gutiérrez.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer continued its commanding awards showing this morning, clocking a leading 13 BAFTA noms. Disappearing from the season’s leading pack, however, was Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which only clocked five noms after being longlisted in 15 categories.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer dominating the evening.The Cillian Murphy-starring film about the father of the atomic bomb took away eight awards on the night including Best Director and Best Picture. Murphy was expected to take home Best Actor, but lost out to Paul Giamatti, who won Best Actor for his turn in The Holdovers in one of the biggest upsets of the evening.

Patti Smith has made her first public appearance since her hospitalisation to honour Lily Gladstone.Last December, the punk singer was forced to cancel a show in Bologna after a “sudden illness” prompted Smith to be rushed to the hospital. A few days later, it was reported that the singer was “in good health“, with Smith taking to social media: “I am resting, as the doctor ordered, grateful to have had such care, though being painfully aware that many are not so fortunate.”Nearly a month later, Smith has made her first public appearance to present Gladstone with the award for Best Actress at the National Board of Review Awards Gala.

Lily Gladstone has responded to Devery Jacobs‘ criticisms of Killers of the Flower Moon.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director “Killers of the Flower Moon” star Lily Gladstone recently joined Rolling Stone for an interview in which she was asked to weigh in on the heated criticism of the film made by “Reservation Dogs” actor Devery Jacobs, who Gladstone said is a friend. Gladstone also appeared on “Reservation Dogs.” Jacobs is a fellow Indigenous actor best known for playing Elora on three seasons of the FX and Hulu comedy series. She called out “Flower Moon” last October for not portraying its Osage characters with “honor or dignity” and for further dehumanizing them by depicting their deaths.

And they had to say things like, you know, Can you pull his fly down?’ And it was a little awkward,” Foster recalled.Foster noted how, because she had been on more film sets than Scorsese and De Niro at that point in time, her elder colleagues were somewhat intimidated when having to interact with her.“Yeah, they were a little scared, Scorsese especially, who kept giggling every time he talked to me.
