Cheat Codes, arriving on August 12, is a collaborative project from Danger Mouse (the multiple Grammy Award-winning producer and Gnarls Barkley co-founder) and Black Thought, who raps with The Roots and has recently begun to receive his flowers as one of the best rappers ever. Today, the duo have shared the project's second single "Because," a posse cut with Joey Bada$$, Russ, and Dylan Cartlidge.

This is an artist, after all, who first burst onto the scene in 2012 aged just 17 with his ‘1999’ mixtape: an exuberant and exhilarating release that not only showcased the Pro Era rapper’s proficiency as a technical MC, but also demonstrated his crate-deep knowledge of his native New York’s hip-hop heritage.

Joey Bada$$ has some new music in the works, however, these days, he’s more concerned with getting some of his recordings back on streaming services. Earlier this week, Joey reportedly began receiving messages from fans asking why they couldn’t access some of his previous releases including ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA** on Apple Music.

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten new solo music from Joey Bada$$, but the Brooklyn rapper decided to share a new verse with fans on his YouTube channel. The Pro Era MC dedicated his yet-to-be-released song to the larger hip-hop community in light of recent tragedies like the passing of Juice WRLD and Pop Smoke. “A lil something I wrote in light of all the fucked up shit going on rn,” he wrote in the video description. “I need hip-hop to have a hug.”
