EXCLUSIVE: The cast for the American High and Hartbeat Hulu movie Prom Dates has been set with Chelsea Handler and Best in Show‘s John Michael Higgins, but also Julia Lester, Antonia Gentry, Kenny Ridwan, JT Neal, Jordan Buhat, Zión Moreno, and Terry Hu. The movie will hit the service this spring.

Following the renewal of American High‘s first-look deal with Hulu Originals, the streamer has pre-bought rights to Prom Dates, a new coming-of-age comedy from American High and Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat.

Selome Hailu Hulu has picked up “Prom Dates,” a coming-of-age comedy film produced by Kevin Hart‘s Hartbeat Studios as well as American High. “Prom Dates” follows best friends Jess and Hannah, who made a pact at 13 to have the perfect senior prom. Despite the impending changes that college will bring over the next four years, the two are committed to honoring their prom pact.

Hulu on Wednesday unveiled a series of first look photos for Miguel Wants to Fight — its eighth Original Film from American High (Big Time Adolescence), which premieres on the streaming platform on August 16.

Lift, the forthcoming action comedy teaming Kevin Hart with director F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton), has pushed its Netflix premiere date to January 12, 2024, the streamer revealed on Monday. Also unveiled was a first look photo for the film, at one point set to open on August 25, 2023, which you can view above.

Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler reunited for their new Netflix film Murder Mystery 2, to the delight of their fans, but the reviews for the detective comedy are mixed.  The co-stars and pals have reprised their roles as married couple Nick and Audrey Spitz, who are now full-time private detectives after finding themselves caught up in a murder investigation in 2019's Murder Mystery.  In the sequel directed by Jeremy Garelick, the Spitzes are invited to the destination wedding of the Maharajah Vikram Govindan (Adeel Akhtar), but they are forced to go into detective mode when he is kidnapped before the ceremony.

The first “Murder Mystery” from 2019, written by James Vanderbilt (“Zodiac”), was a fun star-studded throwback to the 1980s Agatha Christie films like 1982’s “Evil Under the Sun,” with salt of the earth Brooklynites Nick and Audrey Spitz (Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston) thrown into the mix. The script was a smart, genre-savvy affair coupled with Sandler-style lowbrow comedy, a combination that almost worked, but was undone by the lackluster direction by Kyle Newacheck.

Jason Zaro (“Brigsby Bear”) will serve as co-producer across the new slate of films for Hulu.
