Dutch actress/director Halina Reijn made a big splash for her English-language feature debut last year with A24’s anti-slasher “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” Not everyone loved the movie (this writer didn’t), but once A24 becomes interested in an artist, loads of moviegoers also become interested.

After a period of speculation prolonged by the double strike, A24 has officially confirmed the cast set for its erotic thriller Babygirl, marking a reteam with Bodies Bodies Bodies helmer Halina Reijn. Nicole Kidman (The Undoing), Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory) and Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) lead an ensemble that also includes Talk to Me‘s Sophie Wilde and Jean Reno (Léon: The Professional).

Film Independent Spirit Awards were handed out live Saturday night. Continuing a long-standing tradition, the 38th annual ceremony, which honors and celebrates independent filmmakers, took place at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California. This year’s most-nominated films were , which garnered eight total nods and competed in the Best Feature category against , which had seven nods. A24 is planning a one-night-only event to release the film on the company’s screening room on Thursday, Sept. 22. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. ET. “Instinct” had its world premiere at the 2019 Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland and later played at the Toronto International Film Festival. Next Thursday’s screening will be the first time “Instinct” has been available in North America since its pre-pandemic festival debut. Additionally, the evening will mark the first time that A24 uses its screening room to show a film that the indie company has acquired, as opposed to one of its own productions.

Bodies Bodies Bodies (in limited release August 5, nationwide on August 12). It’s hard to resist a clever, well-made generational-skewering satire and the A24 horror “Bodies Bodies Bodies” really seems to fit the bill. The English-language directorial debut of Dutch filmmaker/actress Halina Reijn (“Instinct,” “Black Book”), “Bodies Bodies Bodies” debuted at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year and appeared to be a massive hit.
