Chris Jansing Aims to Spotlight MSNBC’s Hard-News Roots

Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor Chris Jansing is accustomed to doing marathon stints in front of the camera for NBC News and MSNBC. In the aftermath of 9/11, she sometimes found herself reporting or anchoring for seven hours or more. “I lived on tater tots for, I think, two months,” she recalls in a recent interview. “It was the one thing that could fill me up and wouldn’t ruin my lipstick.” Her latest assignment will require her to be on air only for two hours a day. But it may prove just as challenging. In an era when cable-news anchoring stints are usually doled out 60 minutes at a time, Jansing is taking on more. The new edition of her “Chris Jansing Reports” at 1 p.m. expands to two hours, and her widening territory comes as MSNBC’s identity is increasingly tied up with a growing spate of opinion and “news perspective” programs. Her show, she says, isn’t that. “We are going to respect your trust, your interest, your time,” she says. “We are going to give you the top stories of the day, but we are also going to give you something else.”

EFM Issues ‘Call to Action’ for Diversity and Inclusion in Europe’s Screen Industries at Berlin (EXCLUSIVE)

Christopher Vourlias The European Film Market (EFM) is hosting a day-long event on diversity, equity and inclusion on Feb. 16, bringing together a host of industry stakeholders in an effort to set the agenda for better representation — both on and off screen — in Europe’s film and television industries. The Equity and Inclusion Pathways Seminar will bring together roughly 100 industry professionals from 21 countries, representing both their respective media industries as well as regional and pan-European organizations and advocacy groups working toward greater diversity and inclusion. By bringing European decision-makers and advocacy bodies together at the same table, the organizers hope to introduce “sustainable, lasting change” to Europe’s screen industries by “bring[ing] about better policy-making, measures and initiatives regarding inclusion, equity and accessibility,” according to Faysal Omer, head of EFM Producers.
