Simon Pegg reveals his favourite film in the Cornetto trilogy

Simon Pegg has revealed his favourite film in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. The beloved trio of films, directed by Edgar Wright, consists of the zombie comedy Shawn Of The Dead (strawberry), the action comedy Hot Fuzz (classic), and the sci-fi comedy The World’s End (mint). Now, Pegg has revealed which of the three films is his favourite.“You know, my favourite of the Cornetto trilogy is The World’s End because it’s the least audience-friendly,” the Mission: Impossible star told Discussing Film.“It’s the darkest of the three. It’s the most challenging, and I love the idea of actually putting the audience in a position where they have to feel a little bit uncomfortable and not necessarily cozy into the familiar.”Pegg also revealed during the interview that he and Wright are currently planning their next project together.“We’ve always done original ideas, even though we’ve kind of built them around existing genres or whatever.

Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy.Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy’s name originates from the different flavours of the Cornetto ice cream cones that appear in the trio of Pegg-Wright films: Shaun Of The Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World’s End (2013).Now, Pegg has teased in an interview with Discussing Film that the movie will be different from the comedy trilogy – and that the aim is to engage audiences more deeply.“We’ve always done original ideas, even though we’ve kind of built them around existing genres or whatever,” Pegg said. “Edgar and I are always talking about what we’re going to do next.“Neither of us can believe it’s been 10 years since The World’s End.

Sparks Concert Review: Mael Brothers Make It to Hollywood Bowl After 50 Years, Find the Town is Finally Big Enough

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Landing a first headlining slot at the Hollywood Bowl is a cherished milestone for any major musical acts who claim Los Angeles as their home base. It can even mean a little more, probably, when it’s a sibling jubilee. Last summer, it was a homecoming-queens coronation for the Haim sisters, who got the honor a mere nine years into their professional career. This year, the Bowl debut honor for cherished locals goes to the Mael brothers, who only had to wait 52 years for their own crowning gig. What’s five decades among friends and family … everybody loves a slow build, right? The brothers would never be mistaken for rank sentimentalists, but Sunday night’s Sparks show might have brought a hint of a tear to a waggish eye, knowing it was a boyhood dream. Or at least when Ron and Russell Mael’s mom brought them to see the Beatles at the venue in 1965, it was “probably some good education,” as Russell allowed near the beginning of the show. At the Bowl Sunday, Mom was likely not around, but they did have the closest thing they’ve probably had lately to a surrogate parent, director Edgar Wright, whose consciousness-raising documentary “The Sparks Brothers” can be loosely said to have kind of nurtured them across a sort of finish line. (The show-closing photo seen above, plus some video snippets below, are courtesy of Wright’s backstage camera.)

‘Lockwood & Co’ Won’t Be Renewed for Second Season

K.J. Yossman ‘Lockwood & Co’ will not be renewed for a second season, Variety has learned. The supernatural detective series, which is based on Jonathan Stroud’s young adult novels of the same name, was developed by Joe Cornish under his Complete Fiction banner and debuted on Netflix in January of this year. It starred Ruby Stokes as Lucy Carlyle, a teenage ghost hunter with a tragic past, who teams up with Anthony Lockwood (played by Cameron Chapman) and George Karim (Ali Hadji-Heshmati) to form a ghost-busting agency that specializes in dealing with deadly ghouls. Variety understands that while Netflix was very pleased with the show, and especially the work that had gone into it, viewing numbers didn’t meet the threshold to greenlight a second season.

Martin Scorsese Rails Against Box Office Obsession: It’s ‘Repulsive’ and ‘Really Insulting’

Zack Sharf Martin Scorsese railed against box office numbers during a recent appearance at the New York Film Festival (via IndieWire). The Oscar-winning filmmaker called the industry’s obsession with box office grosses both “repulsive” and “really insulting.” Scorsese praised the festival for championing filmmaking at a time when “cinema is devalued, demeaned, belittled from all sides, not necessarily the business side but certainly the art.” “Since the ’80s, there’s been a focus on numbers. It’s kind of repulsive,” Scorsese said. “The cost of a movie is one thing. Understand that a film costs a certain amount, they expect to at least get the amount back… The emphasis is now on numbers, cost, the opening weekend, how much it made in the U.S.A., how much it made in England, how much it made in Asia, how much it made in the entire world, how many viewers it got. As a filmmaker, and as a person who can’t imagine life without cinema, I always find it really insulting.”
