Spike Lee has said he’d like Twitter to calm down regarding director Daniel Scheinert calling Lee’s Malcolm X a “crime movie”.Scheinert invoked the wrath of many movie fans on the internet when he appeared on  The Criterion Collection’s Closet Picks. Stating his admiration for the film, the Oscar-nominated director referred to the 1997 biopic as “maybe my favourite crime movie”.However, Lee has now responded to the furore by telling those calling for the director to be dragged and cancelled to calm down. “I’d never heard that description before,” Lee told The Guardian.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the heirs to the UK throne, will attend the upcoming BAFTA for the first time in three years, Kensington Palace has announced. William, who has been the president of BAFTA since 2010, and Kate will watch the ceremony being held at the Royal Festival Hall on 19 February before meeting the winners and Rising Star Award nominees.The royal couple last attended the event in person in 2020 with the prince last year recording a video message in his place, in which he congratulated those nominated and praised the work of BAFTAs programmes.

While Michelle Yeoh and Angela Bassett are breaking ground in the acting categories, RRR is bringing Indian representation to a stacked list of contenders for best original song.Michelle Yeoh is the first Asian-identifying woman to be nominated in the best actress category for her starring role in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The Oscar nominations revealed Tuesday did not include any female directors, extending a trend that across this season’s awards landscape. It means the modest streak of women winning the Directing Oscar will end at two, after back-to-back wins the past two years with Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog) in 2022 and Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) in 2021.

Everything Everywhere All At Once announced itself this morning as a serious Oscar threat with 11 nominations, topping off with best picture. That includes performing noms for Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Stephanie Hsu and Ke Huy Quan. The film also drew noms for costume, original score, original screenplay, best original song, film editing, and directing for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

Hollywood is notoriously fickle. It can create stars overnight and toss them aside as quickly, moving on to the next big thing. Once you are gone, you are usually forgotten, with no second shot at stardom and no career do-overs.

Nominations for the 2023 BAFTA Film Awards have been unveiled. Scroll down for the full list.

Six months ago you would have got sky-high odds on the BAFTA nominations being dominated by a German-language film and movies by heavyweights Spielberg, James Cameron and Iñárritu only garnering a handful of nominations between them.

There will be several stars missing from the 28th annual Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday, January 15, after testing positive for coronavirus.

Another day, another red carpet! The 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards are just hours away — and viewers can expect fan-favorite stars to slay.

Jamie Lee Curtis, who has been making the rounds at movie awards events as part of the cast of A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, said Friday that she has Covid. It means she must miss several planned stops on the circuit including today’s AFI Awards luncheon and Sunday’s Critics Choice Awards.

A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once scored nine nominations and Focus Features’ Tár followed with seven to lead the way Thursday in film noms for the 14th annual Dorian Awards, bestowed by GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics.

After last night’s Golden Globe thing, we had only less than 12 hours to regroup and prepare for the real deal: First SAG nominations, and then DGA, the initial two major guild indicators of where the real sentiment may lie before Oscar voting begins tomorrow. With Producers Guild, often a very Oscar-predictive list as well, still to come also tomorrow the best barometers of where industry thinking is at the moment will be on the table.

The Screen Actor’s Guild had their year-end say at sunrise and a few hours later, the Directors Guild of America revealed their own nominees for the 2023 DGA Awards. For the most prestigious honor, Theatrical Feature Film, the nominees are Todd Field (“TAR”), Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”), Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Steven Spielberg (“The Fablemans”).

The Directors Guild of America has nominated Tár‘s Todd Field, Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski, Everything Everywhere All at Once‘s Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, The Banshees of Inisherin‘s Martin McDonagh and The Fabelmans’ Steven Spielberg for the top feature film prize at its 75th annual DGA Awards.

When Ke Huy Quan won his first Golden Globe on Tuesday night for his supporting turn in A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, he started off by paying tribute to his first boss — the director who cast him in the iconic role of Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Refresh for updates: A24 once again dominated the Film Independent Spirit Award nominations with 24 noms this year, and their Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert directed arthouse blockbuster Everything Everywhere All at Once leading with eight nominations. That movie launched out of SWSW last March, ultimately becoming A24’s biggest grossing movie with $70M domestic, $103M WW and will close to the year later continue its rally to the Santa Monica Pier where the Spirits will take place on March 4, eight days before the Oscars on March 12, 2023. There is no broadcast partner this year for the Spirits and that there will be more info on the various ways to stream the show globally as the show gets closer.

Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill, after asking the director herself.According to Tarantino, the 1992 action film Supercop, starring Yeoh and Jackie Chan, was a source of inspiration for Uma Thurman during filming on the 2003 martial arts film.The director also encouraged Yeoh to come out of retirement after she suffered an on-set injury filming 1996’s The Stunt Woman. “I must say, Quentin, he’s persistent,” Yeoh told Town & Country.
