The war in the kitchen is over, for now.  Season 2 of FX’s “The Bear” is not about head chef Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), his co-owner cousin Richie (Eben Moss-Bachrach), and sous chef Sydney (by long-reigning series MVP Ayo Edibiri) commandeering a lively Chicago beef kitchen as if it were a battleship, ordering their fellow chefs to fire up every chicken they’ve got or to make giardiniera from scratch.

The mentor’s meaning is clear enough: To achieve greatness, you need to expand your horizons. This piece of advice comes close to the halfway point of the second season of “The Bear,” long after the FX half-hour has applied the insight to itself. Last year, the tale of a family-owed Chicago sandwich shop taken over by a prodigal son became a surprise summer hit by staying tightly focused on its central location. Each of its eight episodes unfolded like a stage play, as the staff of the Original Beef of Chicagoland careened through the cramped kitchen, confronting their latest crisis. This M.O. reached its apotheosis in the widely acclaimed penultimate episode, a 20-minute tracking shot that began with the Beef opening itself to online orders and ended with relationships strained to their breaking point.

Before patrons of The Original Beef of Chicagoland ever get their delicious sandwiches from chef Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) on FX’s The Bear, they have to go through manager Richie Jerimovich—an irritable clodhopper who’s both aggravating and engaging all at the same time. He’s played with affection and reverence by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, the blue-eyed breakout best known for his stints on Girls (as Marnie’s husband Desi) and The Punisher (as David Linus  ‘Microchip’ Lieberman, the title character’s ally). Here, Moss-Bachrach talks about making it big on the comedy series from executive producer Christopher Storer (Ramy).

In case you’re living under a rock, FX’s “The Bear” took the TV world by storm last year, seemingly coming out of nowhere and turning the whole cast and crew into rock stars, especially the series’ lead Jeremy Allen White, known from “Shameless,” but seemingly receiving a whole new career overnight thanks to the runaway and critical success of the show (nearly everyone who covers TV put it on their list of the Best TV of 2022, including us).

The Bear will return for its second season on Thursday, June 22, FX announced today. All 10 episodes of the hit dark comedy will be available for streaming exclusively on Hulu. Season 2 will be available on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in all other territories at a later date. FX also released the season 2 key art (see below).

Molly Gordon has been tapped for a key recurring role on Season 2 of FX’s hit series The Bear, which premieres in June on Hulu.

As if “The Bear” Season 2 couldn’t be more hyped. Variety reports that “Better Call Saul” star Bob Odenkirk joins the cast for the upcoming season of FX‘s hit kitchen drama.

After its premiere on FX last June, “The Bear” quickly became one of 2022’s most critically acclaimed TV series. And now the buzzy show returns sooner than expected.

FX‘s hit series The Bear is set to return early this summer with an increase from 8 episodes to 10. An exact date will be revealed at a later date.

The Directors Guild of America has unveiled the television and documentary nominations for its 75th anniversary DGA Awards, which will be handed out next month.

Christopher Storer is the writer and director of the pilot.
