Tom Cruise continues to defy the laws of physics for entertainment value in the new trailer for “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” the seventh installment in the spy-action franchise that ups the ante with each successive film. The action set pieces — largely practical — are the centerpiece of each “Mission” movie: in the first film it was Ethan Hunt dangling over a computer, “M:I 2” was Cruise climbing a cliffface, “M:I 3” had the bridge attack, “Ghost Protocol” saw Cruise hang off the tallest building in the world, “Rogue Nation” put Cruise on the outside of an airplane while it took off, and “Fallout” had a nail-biting skydiving sequence. So what’s on tap for “Dead Reckoning Part One?” For starters, Cruise jumps a motorcycle off a cliff. But then there’s what looks to be the major set piece: a massive practical train action sequence.Christopher McQuarrie, who directed the last two films, “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” and “Mission: Impossible — Fallout,” returns to write and direct “M:I 7” and “M:I 8,” with “Dead Reckoning Part Two” still in production.Watch the “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” trailer above.

Tom Cruise Had ‘No Fear’ Riding Motorcycle Off a Cliff for ‘Mission: Impossible 7,’ Reveals Co-Star Vanessa Kirby

Marc Malkin Senior Film Awards, Events & Lifestyle Editor It’s one thing to see Tom Cruise seemingly defy the laws of sanity in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, but it’s a whole other experience watching the actor complete his stunts in person. Vanessa Kirby, who reprises her role as the White Widow in “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One,” says she was on set when Cruise parachuted from a motorcycle after riding it off a cliff in Iceland for the eighth installment of “M:I.” “He did it many times in one day,” recalls Kirby. “He did it consecutively … and repeatedly so he could capture all the different angles and sides of it.” If Cruise was nervous, he sure didn’t show it. “He was just so calm,” Kirby says. “He had no fear. He just found it exhilarating. That kind of belief in cinema and what one could achieve and his passion for it is so inspiring. He kind of believes he can do the impossible and then he does…I love being a part of the franchise. I’m really excited to come back.”

How to Watch the ‘Mission: Impossible’ Movies in Order

Mission: Impossible, Dead Reckoning, Part One,” the seventh film in the franchise, is due out this July, while “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part Two” will be unleashed next June. If, somehow, you’ve never seen any of the “Mission: Impossible” movies, they began in 1996 with the Brian De Palma-directed original, an adaptation of the popular, Bruce Geller-created spy series that ran from 1966 to 1973 for 172 episodes and was revived briefly in the late 1980s (that version only ran for two seasons and 35 episodes).

Tom Cruise is reportedly obsessed with making this movie

Tom Cruise is “fixated” on the Tropic Thunder character. The character first turned heads back in 2008, when those who went to see the satirical action film in cinemas were confronted with Tom Cruise, in full prosthetics, playing a fictional studio executive and dancing to Ludacris’ ‘Get Back’.Although it has been over a decade since the character of Les Grossman appeared on screens, fans have consistently clamoured for more and even hoped that the character will get his own spin-off.Now, following numerous reports over the last year, it appears that both Cruise and producer Christopher McQuarrie are also “fixated on” the character, and looking to bring him back in a new project.First reported by Deadline last year, the two are one step closer to reviving the character for the big screen, although it may not be particularly for a ‘Les Grossman movie’. As per the report, it remains “unclear” whether Cruise and McQuarrie will “create a whole movie around Grossman, or borrow him for inclusion in either of the other vehicles”.

On social media, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie just announced that Rolf Saxon, the actor who played unlucky CIA agent William Donloe in Brian De Palma’s 1996 masterpiece “Mission: Impossible” will be returning for the eighth film, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part Two” (due out in the summer of 2024).If, for some reason, you don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of the franchise, in the first movie Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team, then comprised of Luther (Ving Rhames), Krieger (Jean Reno) and Claire (Emmanuele Béart), stage an audacious break-in at the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. This involves sneaking into the “black vault,” an ultra-secure CIA database overseen by William Donloe, an analyst at the agency.

Jordan Moreau After 25 years, “Mission: Impossible” fans may finally find out whatever happened to William Donloe, the CIA analyst from the original movie who was supposed to be watching highly classified documents before Ethan Hunt drops from the ceiling and steals them in the now famous scene. On his Instagram account Wednesday, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” writer Christopher McQuarrie revealed that actor Rolf Saxon, who played William Donloe in the first “Mission: Impossible,” is returning in next year’s franchise finale, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.” McQuarrie shared a photo of Saxon’s character, who is now sporting a beard after the events of the original “Mission: Impossible.” After Tom Cruise’s super spy Ethan Hunt suspended himself from a cable and dropped down from ceiling of the high-security CIA vault to steal the NOC list, Donloe was promptly fired and reassigned to a polar substation in Alaska.

Jerry Bruckheimer on ‘Top Gun: Maverick,‘ Collaborating With Tom Cruise and the Movie’s ’Dangerous’ Aerial Work

Tim Gray Senior Vice President With 20/20 hindsight, the mega-success of Paramount’s “Top Gun: Maverick” might seem inevitable, since it is a sequel to a familiar title, and it stars Tom Cruise. Of course nothing is a sure bet. And even with its popularity, there was no assurance Academy voters would embrace it. But the film earned $1.48 billion at the worldwide box office and scored Oscar noms for best picture, adapted screenplay, editing, sound, song (by Lady Gaga and BloodPop) and visual effects. The best picture nom recognizes four producers: Tom Cruise, David Ellison, Christopher McQuarrie and, after nearly 50 years in the industry, Jerry Bruckheimer, who is celebrating his first Oscar nomination.
