Todd Haynes’ biopic “I’m Not There” famously featured several actors in the role of Bob Dylan, each embodying the artist in one era of his varied musical career. The idea, of course, was to acknowledge Dylan’s shapeshifting nature as well as the fact that his work can mean different things to different people — some may find one actor’s interpretation more convincing and accurate than that of another.

‘Joan Baez I Am A Noise’ Trailer: A Folk Icon Finally Gets Her Proper Due

If you’ve ever seen a Bob Dylan or ’60s folk doc or Martin Scorsese’s “No Direction Home,” you’ll know that Joan Baez has a complicated relationship with fame and Dylan. In many ways, she seemed disappointed that Dylan left the socio-political movement they started in the 1960s with their folk protest songs, and on another level, she may still seem peeved that Dylan soaked up the spotlight, leaving her and many others from that scene off in the dust (the way their romantic relationship ended, poorly, probably didn’t help).

Bob Dylan once gave Post Malone unused lyrics for a song that never got completed

Bob Dylan supposedly once gave Post Malone his unused lyrics to use in a song that never got completed according to producer Michael Cash.Speaking to Rolling Stone, Cash revealed that he had come up with the idea for a project during the COVID-19 pandemic that would have seen rappers form songs based on recently uncovered and unused lyrics from Bob Dylan.Cash said the project would have been his own spin of the 2014 Bob Dylan-tribute record ‘Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes’, in which artists like Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford, and Rhiannon Giddens recorded songs featuring unused Dylan lyrics.Cash’s version of the project, which would have been called ‘The Attic MP3s’, ultimately never came to fruition, but would ideally have featured performances from Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Post Malone. While the project never got released, Cash told Rolling Stone that some progress had been made as Dylan’s team green-lit Malone’s involvement in the record and that they had sent him lyrics to work with.Cash claims he corresponded with Jeff Rosen, Dylan’s longtime representative, and that after weeks of not hearing back, he got a text at “two o’clock in the morning”.

‘Do Not Expect Too Much From The End Of The World’ Review: Radu Jude’s Complex Satire Leaves A Bitter Aftertaste – Locarno Film Festival

It’s rare that European cinema impacts on Hollywood but it’s exciting when there’s a trickle-down effect, like the connection to be made between Denmark’s stripped-down Dogme movies, which launched in Cannes in the late ’90s, and Steven Spielberg’s decision to go back to basics (well, for him) with Catch Me If You Can a few years later. It’s a moot point how many will ever see Romanian director Radu Jude’s follow-up to his 2021 Berlinale winner Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn, but, like Bob Dylan going electric or the Sex Pistols making their ramshackle debut at a London art school, this wilfully uncommercial but bloody-minded film could be genuinely seminal in its anarchic and totally individualistic approach, slipping discordant, Godardian subversion into a darkly comic, Ruben Östlund-style human drama.

For all the great music she left behind, most of the public knows Sinead O’Connor for one moment: tearing up a photo of Pope John Paul II on “Saturday Night Live” in 1992, a move that was intended as a blunt statement on abuse in the Catholic church. Not surprisingly, the move torpedoed her career and made her the object of vicious responses from the public and many celebrities — she was booed when she walked onstage at a Bob Dylan tribute concert just days after the incident — and the pillorying continued for many years, with the reaction to her statement changing only as the church’s countless, widespread abuses have become horrifyingly clear.

who died Wednesday at the age of 56 — shocked the world when she ripped up a picture of Pope John Paul II on “Saturday Night Live” in 1992.The move, which unfolded as she sang an a cappella version of Bob Marley’s once-banned song “War,” got her barred from NBC for life and booed off the stage at a Bob Dylan tribute concert a few weeks later. She initially said tearing up the photo was to protest the Catholic Church and “fight the real enemy” amid child sex abuse scandals, but the stunt had a much deeper meaning, which the singer detailed in her memoir, “Rememberings.” “My intention had always been to destroy my mother’s photo of the pope,” she wrote.
