Directed by Amy Berg, the four-part series followed the killing of 18-year-old Lee and the trial and conviction of Syed, her ex-boyfriend. Syed’s case was the focus of the groundbreaking “Serial” podcast back in 2014. Syed, now 41, has been serving a life sentence in prison since 2000. He has maintained his innocence. On Wednesday, the Baltimore City State’s Attorney Office said in a filing in circuit court after an almost yearlong investigation it had uncovered new evidence in Syed’s case that cast doubt on his guilt. “[T]he State no longer has confidence in the integrity of the conviction,” the office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore Marilyn Mosby said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news.

New Evan Rachel Wood documentary to explore Marilyn Manson abuse accusations

A new two-part documentary about actor Evan Rachel Wood and her decision to publicly accuse Marilyn Manson of abuse is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month. It will then air on HBO in the spring.Titled ‘Phoenix Rising’, director Amy Berg says that the film was originally about Wood’s emergence as an activist working to improve legal protections for survivors of domestic abuse.

Disney and Kathleen Hughes’ The American Dream and Other Fairy Tales and Amy Berg’s Phoenix Rising have been added to the Special Screenings section of the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, taking place virtually from January 20-30. The news from the Sundance Institute was accompanied by an announcement that single film ticket sales will open on January 13 at 10 a.m. MT.
