Comedian Gareth Richards, a former radio co-host of Frank Skinner, has died almost two weeks after suffering brain injuries in a motorway crash. Skinner broke down in tears live on his show in the days after the collision as he told listeners that his friend was fighting for his life. Richards died of his injuries on Friday, his wife Laura said in a post on social media paying tribute.

Fresh off of its original seven-episode British run on BBC One, Adam Kay’s black comedy-drama “This is Going to Hurt” arrives on AMC this week, ready to give American audiences a taste of its wicked wit. Based on his nonfiction comedy novel of the same name, ‘Hurt’ brings a unique perspective to the UK medical scene circa 2006, providing a hearty dose of sociopolitical commentary in between bone-dry humor and painfully relatable interpersonal drama.

Ben Whishaw (“A Very English Scandal,” “Fargo”) and premieres June 2 on AMC+ and Sundance Now. It’s adapted from British writer Adam Kay’s bestselling book, based on the diaries he kept during his six-year career as a physician in the UK specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. Kay also wrote the series, which meanders along before taking a brutally dark “didn’t see that one coming” turn later on.

What is it really like to be a doctor? The new series “This Is Going to Hurt” explores the trials, tribulations, and glimpses of hope in practitioners’ lives that most patients will never see. Set in a London hospital, ‘Hurt’ is based on Adam Kay’s memoir of the same name.
