Pep Guardiola has denied that he snubbed Roy Hodgson when the former England manager led Crystal Palace to victory at the Etihad Stadium in 2018. Hodgson will take his Watford side to Manchester City tomorrow hoping for another upset win to aid the Hornets' survival bid.
But he said that when the Eagles shocked Guardiola's side 3-2 three seasons ago, the City boss did not speak to him for a long time. It is likely that Hodgson was joking when he said at the Hornets press conference yesterday when talking about his excellent record at the Etihad.
He said: “ Pep didn’t speak to me for a long while after Palace managed to steal a win up there and if we get a win this time, he will probably never speak to me again! We won one, then drew one and lost one 4-0 after a very good 55 minutes, but when we conceded the first one, we let in three more.

“We have done OK up there. We have done what teams like ourselves, like what I did at Crystal Palace and Fulham, can do which is to work very hard to be organised and frustrate the opposition. We haven’t been good enough, any of the teams I’ve coached, to go toe-to-toe with them.”
Guardiola was asked whether he had not spoken to Hodgson after that shock defeat — which would have been out of character for a manager who is always respectful of the opposition and his opposite number — and he said it was not true.
"It’s not true, when I lose always I talk, we don’t speak, we don’t invite for the traditional wine glass but it’s not true," he said. "He celebrated and I congratulated him. Why should I not be friends, we are more happy when we win or more sad when we lose? I’m pretty sure it was a joke."

Pep Guardiola says he could re-think his preference of working with a small squad, with Manchester City stretched by injury at the business end of the season. Problems for John Stones, Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake, plus Joao Cancelo’s suspension means the Blues could be down to just three fit defenders for the visit of Real Madrid on Tuesday.
